He absolutely has to shoot. His strengths at this level are very average at the next level for the position he will play.

Re: ‘21 Draft
His frigid start ( shooting ) may keep him in college another year which is good for us.
Re: ‘21 Draft
I don't buy into that unless it took a toll on him mentally that we don't know about. I don't think it would have caused him to regress. He still was allowed to practice.
Re: ‘21 Draft
Which i think is maybe the hardest position to play in the NBA right now for a guy with average to slightly below average athleticism.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:55 amHe absolutely has to shoot. Re: ‘21 Draft
Just look at his numbers coming off the bench after a delayed start to the season, vs starting again nowBasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:58 amI don't buy into that unless it took a toll on him mentally that we don't know about. he’s a kidBasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:58 amI don't buy into that unless it took a toll on him mentally that we don't know about. I don't think it would have caused him to regress. He still was allowed to practice.
loosing his starting spot, and then being relegated to practicing with the second squad absolutely had an impact on him
and that’s just the things we know about. the more personal ramifications of it we’ll likely never know
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: ‘21 Draft
I don't agree with this.
( and yes, I am thinking of the NBA, not college )
"with average to slightly below average athleticism"

Are you saying he didn't start as continued punishment? Or his play?ousdahl wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 11:00 amJust look at his numbers coming off the bench after a delayed start to the season, vs starting again nowBasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:58 amI don't buy into that unless it took a toll on him mentally that we don't know about. i favor jw coming back to KANSAS next year..................................and from what i have seen so far, i am pretty confident that he will.
Re: ‘21 Draft
For his height, I think his speed is above average.
Maybe he isn't leaping out of the gym but his rebounding %'s per minute are eye popping.
Jumping has to do with rebounding.

Re: ‘21 Draft
That's partly because he's been surrounded by big guys who aren't elite rebounders....he isn't getting a lot of those rebounds in the NBA. He gets a lot of them below the rim at KU.
What position are you expecting him to play in the NBA?
Re: ‘21 Draft
He's a perfect NBA 3 if he can be a 35-40% three point shooter.
Perfect as in average for the NBA.

Re: ‘21 Draft
Jalen is so damn good at rebounding no matter who he plays next to, but it is a little surprising, and a testament to his anticipation, positioning, and feel for the game, because they are all well below the rim.
Re: ‘21 Draft
Yeah.
Any pro success for Jalen is cuz his feel and skillset are polished enough to make up for his below the rim athleticism.

Re: ‘21 Draft
But, I still just don't see it. I've never thought of Jalen as a shooter, maybe that completely changes and guys like Paul Millsap created a shot out of nowhere to extend their NBA life by a decade.
I think up-and-down athleticism does matter quite a bit in the NBA. It's a different game all the way up there.

Re: ‘21 Draft
He's gotta find his shot for sure -- it's why I don't think he can leave now.
I think it's there, his form is good enough.
In a sport where teams work with less set positions, he could be an interesting piece off the bench in 2nd units.

Re: ‘21 Draft
I'll also say, to me, he's closer to his 3 point shooting numbers from his freshman year than what he is this season. That won't change what he's done this year ( i think he'll shoot around that from January on out ) - but I'd wager, if he came back for his junior year, he'd be around 38-40%.
Re: ‘21 Draft
I will say, I was hoping CB would be torching it from deep a little more by now.
To go from .340 to .351 (so far) isnt quite the leap I (or scouts) wanna see.
In contrast, Och went from .377 to .473 so far, nom nom nom
