I mean, I get it. However, and it pains me to say, they're going to give it to Tang. kstate was voted last by a wide margin. He took on a brand new team and if they win Saturday, they're going to be the 2 seed in KC. Impressive.
KU was 1 first place vote behind Baylor and 4 overall points behind Baylor. But Scott Drew sucks and people should know this by now.
Oh, I fully realize it'll be Tang and I get why he's a candidate -- they were supposed to suck and then didn't but still will finish 2nd-4th.
I think Self's argument is better after what he did last season, what he lost and what he was able to do again.
That's all well and good but you will never be able to defeat the national brand media hype machine that is Hooterville Nation.
hey, if it’s good enough for astronauts…

KU
But KState had a great season, no doubt.
Maybe Tang can get "best new hire", but the best coach this year was Self.
I don't think bad preseason picks should be the main driver of postseason awards.

In the Big 12?
Bill Self.
He did the best job -- we won the dang thing.

i could agree with you. what's the basis though, idk? bill is a fantastic coach with loads of talent meeting expectations, wins another crown. tang gets some dudes, changes culture, exceeds expectations. someone has to say: here are the parameters. i've never seen them. either would be a solid choice. tang will win it.

Seems like the criteria for who wins varies from year to year.
Whoever wins it will be deserving.

I've been thinking about posting a Tang ad like that all season. LOL.

I really don't see UK ending up with Scott Drew as their head coach.
Me neither. But if they are looking for someone who is a polar opposite of Cal, Drew would certainly be a good candidate.
Sort of. They've both got "used car salesman" vibes. Cal sells mock draft porn. Drew sells sweet baby Jesus.
Every coach is selling something. But I agree that neither Cal nor Drew are particularly "genuine" about it but maybe Drew really is as big a churchy dork as he tries to portray himself to be.

"A watered down knock off of the real thing" seems to be an appropriate description of KSU hoops.

The people who predicted KU to be good and the coach who coached the team that won the best conference in the nation.

You went on and on AND ON about what a great culture Weber had. It was this great source of pride that you honked here (and the ISU boards, and the Mizzou boards and who knows where else) so how specifically did Tang change the culture?
Spare me.
Tang has done a nice job letting Nowell and Johnson get theirs in ISO. Awesome coaching job there.

Because he can't use purple comic sans like he does on other boards and he thinks it's amusing. At least he isn't trying to convince us he is a woman like he does over on the ISU boards.

i don't know what your weber cultural reference is attempting to say? i liked bruce. he won a couple of championships. he ran a clean program. that was different than frank martin. so, if that's the cultural change, i plead guilty.
tang has brought a completely different brand of hoops and a faith-based approach to recruiting and developing players. he stopped the f'ku chant. he's developed an unheard of closeness to the student body. he's recruiting high level dudes. yes, those are all cultural change. he's a beloved figure. very different from weber's tenure.

He didn't stop the "Fuck KU" chant. He just told them that they SHOULD stop it. It has yet to actually happen.
