Grimes left and the following year KU was the best team in college basketball.
I thought the same, but 2022 cured a lot. But it hasn't been the prettiest.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 2:22 pmGM Bill has had a pretty rough run over the last, what, 5-7 years.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 2:11 pm Self hated the bench. Need shooters. Isiah Moss types.
Hamburger AAs when they don't fit is 10x worse than regular recruits who fit very well together. See 2022. 1 Hamburger AA, McCormack. Ochai, Braun, Dajuan, Jalen and more were just regular recruits. Nothing special.randylahey wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 2:49 pmWe had 3 mcdonalds all americans this season. And another highly touted 4 star. And Kevin mccullar.. one of the best transfer available. I think recruiting is fine
No. Name a coach who has been a better GM.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 2:22 pmGM Bill has had a pretty rough run over the last, what, 5-7 years.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 2:11 pm Self hated the bench. Pretty sure this describes our incoming freshmenKUTradition wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 2:13 pmis the big just an assumption?
i’d think a couple prototypical combo guards that can shoot a bit (and aren’t midgets) would be the targets…a guy that can play on ball or off, coupled with a bigger “wing”
i actually had that same thoughtousdahl wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 3:18 pmPretty sure this describes our incoming freshmenKUTradition wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 2:13 pmis the big just an assumption?

I love Bill, but: lots of them, frankly?Mjl wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 3:16 pmNo. He's getting a nice blend of talent and experience. He's never used his bench much. Some players didn't work out as expected - just like with every team and coach.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 3:44 pmI love Bill, but: lots of them, frankly?
18-19 - Arguably the worst team of Bill's era (101 minutes (!) per game for Vick/Grimes/Garrett/Moore)
19-20 - (sigh)
20-21 - Not good, 83 minutes per game for Garrett/Thompson/Harris/Enaruna/Grant-Foster
21-22 - Not good until Remy caught a heater
22-23 - Bench gave us nearly nothing
To be clear: maybe, with all of that, we have still been the best team over that span. It's possible!
But that's Coach Bill, not GM Bill. These have NOT been very good rosters.
RussRob was not much better than Garrett or Harris.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 4:03 pm The biggest problem is we consistently have guys playing one role above what you'd like to see. Garrett and Harris are the easy examples.
You want guys like that on your team, but you want them playing 16-24 minutes or something. Not being linchpins.
For example, from his sophomore through senior years, Russell Robinson (who was much better than Garrett or Harris) averaged about 8/4.5/3/2/0.5 in about 28 minutes. On the best teams he was on, he averaged five FGA/game.
THAT's what you want out of guys like him. You DON'T want Harris averaging 34 minutes and 7.7 FGA like he did this year. Or - ugh - Garrett averaging 33 minutes and 8.8 FGA like he did in 20-21.
Russell left a lot on the table, individually. I personally think he would have done better than Garrett and Harris did, in the too-big roles they ended up in.Mjl wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 4:05 pmRussRob was not much better than Garrett or Harris.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 4:03 pm The biggest problem is we consistently have guys playing one role above what you'd like to see. Not even "better".
I'd say not even equal.
Russ is so underrated. I agree with you man. Russ played on a stacked team, so the individual numbers were never there. But he was rock solidjfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 4:29 pmRussell left a lot on the table, individually.
