Made me think of painter’s comment years ago in the tech thread like, “you are not the user, your are the product.”

Maybe that’s too cynical a take.

Either way, that’s some expensive ass staples.

I assume that there is significant benefit to me, to know what was done to me, and when, and by whom. Sure beats getting the wrong treatment or medication (or none at all).

So, for a time I lived (with a roommate, Rob, from South Dakota) in a condo near the U's West Bank campus. Rob would go home some weekends, where his parents would do his laundry.

One Friday or Saturday night in the winter, Rob and I (Rob fresh back from his parents') decided to go out in Dinkytown, which is close to the U's East Bank campus, and thus required walking across the 10th Avenue Bridge (over the Mississippi).

This being winter in Minneapolis, the wind chill on that bridge tends to be within a few frozen boogers of absolute zero. And so, we bundled up for the walk (starting with a whole hell of a lot of cheap whiskey).

You have already guessed what comes next, of course: We trudge across the bridge, with Rob donning a face mask that has very curiously large eye openings, almost like it was made for a person-sized fly.

"Rob, what the fuck are you wearing," I ask, mid-trek.

Rob responds, "Oh, it's a new facemask my mom gave me with my laundry, do you like it?"

"Rob, I think that's your mom's underwear."

(Cheap whiskey barf flies about 100 feet down into the river below.)
