Thoughts about games played 1/13 and 1/14 and who is #1.

Nice to see the Illini lose. With Shannon, I feel that's a top 10 caliber team. Without him, I feel it's not. Which that game pretty much proved. Good.

Memphis has scored 107 and 112 in their last 2 games. They put up 112 against the Shockers.

On Friday a buddy of mine who follows college basketball just a little bit told me he thought Arizona is the best team in the country. Nope. Not today. Maybe in late March and early April.

My Northwestern Wildcats are now 12-4 and 3-2 in the Big 10. I'm predicting they go 5-10 the rest of the way. 17-14. Then lose their first Big 10 tournament game. 17-15. That doesn't get them in the tournament, despite beating at the time, the best team in the country.
You prove you can beat the best team in the country but you're not one of the 64 teams who gets to play for a championship. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Who is #1? My guess is it will be UConn.
Fuck UConn. Sorry, a team that lost by 15 to Seton Hall (which lost by 20 to Xavier) isn't the best team in the country to me.
Fuck Purdue. Sorry, a team that lost by 16 to Nebraska (although Nebraska isn't bad) and Northwestern (who lost to Chicago State and to Illinois without Shannon by 30) isn't the best team in the country to me.
Won't be Houston. Sorry, a team that lost 2 in a row in their last 2 games (to two good - but unranked teams) isn't the best team in the country to me.

We dropped to 4th in ESPNs "Power Rankings" after our bad loss at UCF

but we've beat 3 of the top 6. It's a strange, wide open year in "college" hoops

Nate Oats fall from a rising star continues. Had to apologize for pushing a mizzou player last night. What an idiot. It wasn't a violent push, but you don't put your hands on the other team's player.

He apologized later, but it looks pretty meh, to me:

Definitely "meh", but never a good look to have that be the headline after a game. Especially with the heat he's been under the last few year's.

He just seems sort of like a piece of shit to me.

I don't recognize the name but, (without using the Google machine), I get the impression he's the coach who let the player under suspicion of committing a crime that involved a gun, play anyway... Right?

I dunno.

A coach pushing a player is pathetic.

But a coach pushing a mizzou player? Well…

Yes. And not just that he let the guy play, but the way he acted about it. Like it wasn't any big deal even though a girl died.

Rod Terry lets his feelings be known. I have a simple question. Why does Terry feel it was ok for Texas Basketball players to give a horns up after they beat KU in the Big 12 Tournament in KC with a predominately KU crowd?

I love when people's response to what they deem to be classless is to act classless. Take your L and move on, loser.

UCF coach Johnny Dawkins said he has a lot of respect for Terry and the Texas program and said he will "review what happened and if there's any action that needs to be taken on my end, you know, from our staff, I will do that." "That's not the type of program we run," Dawkins said.

My hope is that was just a "correct" response and he actually laughed about it and gave his players high fives.

thinking about this a bit, i hope every team (other than ou) gives them a horns down…regardless of the actual outcome of the game

Yes (every team other than KU imo). If your players and fans are going to throw horns up then how is it any different to throw horns down, especially not getting in anyone's face and doing way too much with it? Now that people know it bothers him so much it'll be game on in most road environments.
