3) I think the difference may be whether Self can mould a true HS guy into the player he wants, versus whether he can take an established D1 guy and make him work in his system, particularly right away. But, no two players are the same either way.

4) mixed bag for sure. HD has been pretty much as advertised, both the good and the bad. McCullar was prob the most plug-and-play transfer we've ever had, and was also the transfer to develop within the program the most (until injury)

5) this observation is hardly limited to the last year or two

6) you're giving an awful lot of credit to Shak and Coit in particular thus far, but I like the optimism. If we can carry more of that optimism, maybe the light will come on for Storr too, in like a March Malik kinda way...

Well. If I'm self I'm having a one on one meeting with storr talking about his role and play style. It's time for him to start doing that we paid him for. And then I'm starting him for KJ.

Does storr deserve to start? Fuck no. But we gotta figure out how to tap his potential here

Griffen is playing well and deserves it. Bidunga will foul out if we start him

KUs strength of schedule is 7th.
Western Illinois is 356th.

Dunno if that plays a factor.

Chandler Jackson shoots 3s. Not similar to KJ. And he played at Florida State his first 3 years.

Davonte Sweatman has never averaged more than 2.6 assists per game. Not similar to Dajuan.

It took me 5min to determine those player comparisons suck.

that's a good point, to find differences in each person's games. I dunno how that analytics formulates these player comparisons.

DH Zeke and HD hit their shots. I don't think KJ being gone had much to do with them doing that. It wasn't the guys who replaced KJ that did the scoring, that's for sure. Those 3 scored 76% of our points. They made 25 of the 31 baskets.

I think the negative impact of KJ offensively is a tad bit overblown by fans who are looking for excuses or reasons why other players are underperforming. Storr has his issues offensively. Same with Bidunga. Griffen is a mystery. I feel like he looks good and should be playing 25min per game. But apparently he's not doing something that isn't obvious from the fan perspective.

With or without KJ, we've got offensive issues. Zeke is really our only complete offensive player. Everyone else has some sort of limitation. It's just not a super talented offensive team (compared to what we are used to at KU). Which is fine, we've just got to be great defensively when we struggle to score.

I think Hunter, for a center, is a pretty complete offensive player but he has gone milk carton in big games.

I think he struggles to score over physical bigs. But, so does everyone to an extent.

Since he doesn't get open via quickness he attempts a lot of contested shots. But he's pretty efficient nevertheless.

For what it's worth, Zeke and Hunter have the exact same offense rating right now this season.

Hunter's effective shooting percentages by season:
59.8
58.8
58.7
57.3
53.9

That's a significant drop off in efficiency this season. KJ has dropped off even worse. Our front court has not been efficient this year.

Any word on KJ for tomorrow?

Houston 2.5 point favorite @ AFH. Don't see that often.

KJs gonna be out a bit. A separated shoulder takes a minute and often...continues popping out and setting back progress.

If the AC joint is impacted....it's worse.

Another big spot for Bidunga Storr and Griffen. We'll need to play a really good game to beat Houston.
