I think we need to focus on getting everyone vaccinated as quickly as possible more so than worrying too much about the order we receive them in.

The last thing we need are a bunch of Karens denying people their vaccines on technicalities or because they only meet 3 of the 4 criteria, or whatever and ending up with a stockpile of vaccines and more unvaccinated people.

Remember....the more people that are vaccinated the better that is for everyone, especially those of us still not vaccinated, or more importantly those who can't be vaccinated due to allergies or other health issues.

sickening that healthcare providers are letting doses go bad, rather than just vaccinate those that may not be in the current priority group

Especially one who is a SARS-CoV denier! Where would Marco Rubio fit in your definition?

Funny that for some reason I think a lot of those who would bitch would be the same people who weren't worried about the "fungus" 9 months ago and have continuously ignored CDC guidelines/suggestions for the past 9 months. Amiright?

should they be lumped into the strategy that is being applied to the general population, or have they forfeited at least part their “rights” in this case and be bumped back a level or two?

it’s a conundrum that’s been on my mind for a few days
It's a huge conundrum that I also waffle on. There's the obvious argument against them being behind gen pop, but what a huge Petri dish they're and that affects more than just the incarcerated people.

Then thinking about resources--it's a lot of money to keep them alive after getting COVID and the various constitutional questions and lawsuits are going to follow.

To me, the clear first step is to release most of the non-violent offenders starting yesterday.

Mrs 99 is now taking care of covid patients. A large percentage are guests of the state. I'm all for vaccinating them as quickly as we can.

I admit to not having thought about this issue through the lenses the two of you just offered. I was hesitant on my position before, but now count me as pro-prisoner-vax.

It's not that I don't think we should vaccinate people in prison - but other people not in prison would take priority if it were up to me.

With pretty much every question involving incarceration, there are no great answers.

There’s at least one great answer, and you already said it:

release most of the non-violent offenders starting yesterday

Maybe not before elderly and healthcare workers. But prisons aren't just filled with young and middle aged people. There are old and/or unhealthy prisoners with preexisting conditions. There are hundreds of employees. It becomes unmanageable if there is an outbreak very quickly. Not easy to isolate infected prisoners. Not a lot of onsite or quality healthcare services. Not easy (or ideal/safe) to take them off site to hospitals (especially if there more than just a few who are critically ill and requiring hospitalization). You've got to vaccinate them. Maybe not first. But certainly not last.
