Where's the petri dish thread?
Re: Where's the petri dish thread?
Just spoke with a doctor at Northwestern Hospital.
They stopped testing people unless you are seriously ill. Why? Lack of tests? Couldn't give me definitive answer because no one gave her a definitive answer.
Amazing that the main hospital in the heart of the city isn't testing people unless you're basically in horse shit shape.
Said as of this morning there were approximately 150 people being treated for COVID-19 at the hospital right now.
Said basically all resources and personnel are focused on treating the patients.
Said ALL doctors and nurses are being urged to accept the psychological resources that are being made available to them.
I stopped asking questions at that point and she stopped talking about it.
On a side note, it there a good reason why the President and Vice President aren't tested daily?

Trump Keeps Putting the Lives of Lupus Patients at Risk
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/06/opin ... lupus.html
On March 19, I woke up, made coffee, took my usual 10 pills and turned on CNN, hoping to see Gov. Andrew Cuomo. I got President Trump instead. He was talking about the drug hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment for Covid-19. The drug, he said, without providing any evidence, showed “tremendous promise.” My cheeks flushed with fear and rage.
“I think it’s going to be great,” he went on.
My life, and that of millions of other people who depend on hydroxychloroquine to treat lupus, changed in that brief moment. Our lives were suddenly more at risk.
I ran to my computer, almost spilling hot coffee on myself, and looked up the trials Mr. Trump had referred to. I could only find two small studies, one from China and one from France, that had proven inconclusive.
In the days that followed, as the panicked nation started to hoard hydroxychloroquine, I knew that a run on the drug that had saved my life could become a death sentence. The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists soon reported a shortage of hydroxychloroquine. There have even been reports of physicians hoarding the drug for themselves, which the patient in me hopes isn’t true.
Despite weeks of warnings from medical professionals, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, that the drug is still unproven, the president continues to stun experts by defying all scientific advice. “What do you have to lose?” Mr. Trump said in a press briefing on Saturday. “I really think they should take it. But it’s their choice. And it’s their doctor’s choice or the doctors in the hospital. But hydroxychloroquine. Try it, if you’d like.”

“Dr. Anthony Cardillo said he has seen very promising results when prescribing hydroxychloroquine in combination with zinc for the most severely-ill COVID-19 patients.
"Every patient I've prescribed it to has been very, very ill and within 8 to 12 hours, they were basically symptom-free," Cardillo told Eyewitness News. "So clinically I am seeing a resolution."
Cardillo is the CEO of Mend Urgent Care, which has locations in Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys and Burbank.
He said he has found it only works if combined with zinc. The drug, he said, opens a channel for the zinc to enter the cell and block virus replication.”
I also read elsewhere that Governor Cuomo was asking for more of this useless crap that is apparently turning the tide in NYC. Excuse the source, but it quotes him directly: https://trendingpolitics.com/breaking-c ... g-results/

Re: Where's the petri dish thread?
Obviously you have little idea how the drug development process works. I have personally been part of two programs (and there are many "war stories" about this) where we do a Phase 3 trial based on the promising results of a Phase 2 trial and when we unblind the data the results of the larger trial look nothing like that of the smaller trial. It's even worse track record (thankfully) between Phase 1 and Phase 2 - I say thankfully because we have not invested nearly the same resources when we go from Ph2 to Ph3. What you have in this chloroquine situation is essentially a "preclinical" trial quality result - and I use the word "result" very generously!HouseDivided wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 5:49 pmIt just kills you that DJT might be right, doesn’t it? Re: Where's the petri dish thread?
Simple answer to your question is - Yes, I have been ranting.HouseDivided wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 8:30 pmYou’ve been ranting for the better part of a week that he should stop talking about it because people will rush out and somehow get it without a prescription and kill themselves because it is a dangerous drug, have you not?Grandma wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 6:45 pmIt shouldn't kill anyone that "DJT might be right" - and that we we might pull out of an economic apocalypse - and that fewer people might suffer and die needlessly.HouseDivided wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 5:49 pm

Wait, DJT might be right about what? That taking hydroxychloroquine might help people? Who has disputed that?
More complex answer to your question is - I may have but I don't believe I have actually said that he should "stop talking about it". I would have a lot less of problem with him talking about it if EVERY time he did talk about it he also mentioned the possible legitimate risks of people taking it. If EVERY time he talked about it he told people to make sure they discussed the benefits and the risks with their doctors. Instead of repeatedly asking - "What do you have to lose".
That being said, I would feel a lot better if medical experts told people the benefit and the risks of taking hydroxychloroquine instead of a guy who FALSELY claimed - “people with lupus” who take hydroxychloroquine “aren’t catching this horrible virus.”
You know, the same guy who said, "I know windmills very much", "I've studied it better than anybody", "(they say) the noise causes cancer".
Like Donald Trump, I am not a doctor. Possibly/probably unlike Donald Trump, I have myself obtained "prescription" drugs without having a doctor prescribe them for me. I have seen first hand what someone taking a prescription drug that they shouldn't have taken has done to them and I attended their funeral.
I sat at Loyola hospital in Maywood watching my father die while awaiting a heart transplant. Because he took aspirin daily before he was admitted to the hospital I watched him be FORCED to go to a rehab facility in the hospital (while on a fucking "gurney") to help prove to the doctors he could and would stay off ASPIRIN because of the medical repercussions of his taking it should he get a transplant - which he never did.
So yes, perhaps I "over-react" but I would rather be known as someone who gives a fuck than someone who doesn't.
Re: Where's the petri dish thread?
A few things:
1 - Pretty clearly a post hoc defensive leak by Navarro's camp, to blunt bad press from the Fauci controversy.
2a - That doesn't absolve every single person who read the memos from failing to act.
2b - Navarro's own failure to act publicly (once it became the administration would not act) is damning. Same principle as Bolton prioritizing selling books over sharing relevant information.
3 - It is abundantly clear that where we're headed is, indeed, blaming the "DEMOCRAT PARTY IMPEACHMENT HOAX" for the ultimate severity of the pandemic.
Re: Where's the petri dish thread?
Honor among thieves is the only thing keeping the Executive Branch going right now. When the administration is finally out of office, there's going to be a lot of flipping, and a ton of finger pointing. I won't be surprise if everyone high-level official has a book in works to try and exoneration themselves as the true hero in office, and no the scapegoat. 2021 is going to be wild if Trump loses the election.

I believe there's a better chance that people recover and the economy gets back on track as a result of social distancing rather than a drug combination that has yet to receive any significant approval from a reputable organization.HouseDivided wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 5:49 pmIt just kills you that DJT might be right, doesn’t it? Re: Where's the petri dish thread?
Perhaps a combination of social distancing and drug treatments would be even better? I dont know that chloroquine is the answer but that doesnt mean we should stop testing and trying to find a solution.

Re: Where's the petri dish thread?
We’ll just have to wait and see. NYC has had a significant drop in hospital bed occupancy as of today, which, coincidentally or not, is about a week out from when Big Fredo broke down and allowed the hydrochloroquine to be widely used. Either way, it is a good sign.chiknbut wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 9:49 amI believe there's a better chance that people recover and the economy gets back on track as a result of social distancing rather than a drug combination that has yet to receive any significant approval from a reputable organization.HouseDivided wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 5:49 pmIt just kills you that DJT might be right, doesn’t it?
