Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Did they find a weapon on the scene? This should be fairly easy to prove the cops right or wrong. I don't feel like giving the Denver Post my email address to read the article.

Denver police injured five bystanders when they opened fire in the busy Lower Downtown nightlife district as bars closed early Sunday, shooting a man they allege pointed a gun at officers.

Those bystanders — three women and two men — were either shot by police or injured with shrapnel from the officers’ bullets, Denver police said in a news release Sunday afternoon. All five are expected to survive.

So no harm, no foul; let's all move along now.

https://judiciary.house.gov/news/docume ... entID=5029

"The House Judiciary Committee today advanced the Assault Weapons Ban Act of 2021, sponsored by Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI), that would ban the sale, import, manufacture or transfer of certain semi-automatic weapons. Today’s committee action marks the first markup of the assault weapons ban since 1994. The markup follows a recent string of mass shooting involving assault weapons—including the murder of 19 children in Uvalde, Texas at the hands of an AR-15. The bill passed 25 to 18, with every Republican present voting no. "

I am good with this ban. Try it for 10 years. If it doesn't work then so be it....but something tells me it will work. And by work I mean reduce the frequency of these events taking place. I don't expect it to reduce it to zero incidents.

I think the odds of it being passed by the Senate are just about 0%

I think the videos like Uvalde's (with full audio) should be required before they vote. In fact, show them the carnage and clean-up photos too. Do some states not require rape victims to view photos of embryos before abortions? You are enabling. You Know innocents will be killed. Your defense is so that you can protect your country against King George and others that want to take over your govt. But the price you are willing to pay for keeping King George at bay is knowing that innocents will be screaming in the classroom and their bodies will be hamburger. You should see that before you vote. Fair is fair.

From the NY Times Opinion section, a good discussion, about images motivating change (eg George Floyd, Emmet Till, Abu Ghraib, and several others I did not know about or had forgotten).

Just a few hours before he opened fire in a packed Indiana food court on Sunday evening, 20-year-old gunman Jonathan Sapirman appears to have made chilling posts on 4chan that warned of his plan and invoked Nazi imagery.

Sapirman, 20, walked to the Greenwood Park Mall from his apartment on Sunday with three legally purchased guns—two assault rifles and a handgun. He spent an hour in a bathroom, then walked out into the food court and fatally shot three people, all of Hispanic origin…

Sapirman’s motive remains unclear…

While doing some reading on our discussion about Alex Jones, I found this piece of information interesting in regards to our discussion about locking school entrances down.

https://www.britannica.com/event/Sandy- ... l-shooting

"Leaving the shotgun in the car, Lanza shot his way through a window next to the school’s locked security door just after 9:30 am. "

Another case where a locked entrance was not a deterrent to a school shooter.

No more locked doors! They don't work 100% of the time.

I think it shows that it may be more effective to focus legislation and monies on more preventative measures such as making it more difficult for people like this to gain possession of their weapons and on efforts to identify mental/social issues that lead people to want to take these actions in the first place.

Not a mass shooting but obviously we have a massive problem in this country.

“I talked to my son with the cops. My son is just saying that he gotta do what he gotta do".

“The fries were cold,’’ Fulmore said. “I asked the girl to change the french fries because the fries was cold".

“This is when I was on the phone with my son. I was like, ‘They in this McDonald’s playing with me."
