That’s my gut feeling.
All this shit was already going on either way.
Just making it legit won’t change much, beyond the end of the keystone kop ncaa investigations
I think it is a logical conclusion that it hardly changes the landscape in CBB.

It makes it a bigger talking point.
One of my beef's with the NBA, is that instead of talking about who won a game last night in March, they're talking about which Star becomes a free agent in 2024 and which other star he's rumored to want to team up with. I care more about the game.
Now, more of the discussion around college sports will be on endorsement deals. I don't give a shit.
It's the same with gambling. Everyone knew that was a huge deal in sports for decades, but stations like ESPN chose not to talk about it, and it was better. Now, everything is framed in the light of spreads and covering, etc. I don't give a shit about your bad beat, I wanna know who won the game. It's one, among many, reasons I don't watch espn other than live events and documentaries any more. Bringing it to light makes it a bigger part of the narrative.

heard some commentary the other day discussing the whole “WWE” effect, and how there is now this entire separate part of the fan base that’s more engaged in who is beefing with who, and who is teaming up with who, than they are about the game itself
it’s an odd phenomenon that seems pretty unique to the nba
no thank you

True. Those are responses to ratings. Whether that happens in CBB with a nod to why CBB will always be different than NBA (brand connection) is anyone's guess. But, I do think that brand connection lessens the chance of the market's desire getting too similar to that of the NBA's

and I wonder if that beef if more with the league itself, or more with sports media…

Can you deconvolve the two when it comes to fandom?
I mean, if you went to a restaurant and ordered spaghetti, but there was a turd on it, and then the waiter goes, actually the turd is only on the plate, not the speaghetti, would you still want to eat it?

That’s not the best analogy.
A better one would be if you had a particular Italian restaurant you’d enjoyed for years, endless pasta and everything. Then one day you hear in the news “are there turds in the spaghetti?!” And part of you hesitated but part of you recognizes this news site as notorious for clickbait, so you don’t buy into the media hype and keep enjoying that shit, no pun intended, cuz you know that when you’re there you’re family, and family wouldn’t poop in your pasta.

What’s the Italian expression for “Hershey squirts?”
“Il schizzare d’ciocollato”
But I think it’s usually just expressed as “all you can eat breadsticks”

I disagree with the first premise in his title.
But, he's right:
And he's grossly underestimating the problems that will cause.
What's the absolute worst-case scenario?
All the talent accumulates at a small handful of programs?
I think it further erodes the connection between the University and the teams. To what extent, I'm not sure, but it's going to have an impact. The weaker that connection, the less I'm interested.
What does this mean, on the ground, though? What do you think recruits have been choosing schools on in the last, I don't know, 40 years?

Isn’t there some Wilt quote like, “in college I learned about the U.S. presidents, when they handed me an envelope full of papers with the presidents’ pictures on it?
NM, Wilt like totally came to KU cuz of the track meet, heh heh…

First of all, I haven't really liked the direction things have been going in the last, I don't know, 40 years, so there's that.
Second, I think it brings us a lot closer to having no reason for the student athletes to enroll. That means, they're not members of the University. And then the entire connection to the school. The reason I'm a fan, is lost.

I don't get your argument.
You: This thing you don't like has gone on for a long time.
Me: Yeah, I didn't like it then either.
You: Then you can't complain about it now.
Me: That doesn't make any sense.

Why?
Do you do this with everything in life?
Hey guys, I'd like you to meet my new girlfriend I really like her, but it's absolutely necessary that every time I talk about her that I mention that she chews with her mouth open and farts in her sleep.
