John Mayer is an under appreciated guitar player.

I rank him right behind #1 Gary Clark jr and #2 Junior Brown.

I would put him just behind Justin Townes Earle and Dan Auerbach.

Just watch....

One of the best nights of my life. This is a pic pregaming before Game 7 of the 2016 World Series with
Eddie Vedder, Ryan Dempster, Chris Chelios, Kevin Youkilis, Bernie Kosar, Dan Vitale, others I am forgetting.
Eddie is the guy in the black hat with the bottle in his hand.

Nor mine. But seeing him go toe-to-toe with GCjr impressed me.

Yea I mean, dudes good. No doubt about it.

Id like to see a top 10 list, regardless of genre. Lots of people i probably dont know well enough to compose a proper list.

Got a new receiver for dad's day today. Kicked it off with this. Maybe my favorite album ever.

That's awesome. Great album, sounds like it was a thoughtful gift.

The Dead reference combined with the discussion of great guitarists makes me wonder, as a person who loves playing guitar and was inspired by the Grateful Dead to start playing - what makes somebody a great guitarist? Like, you can have someone that plays the most complex stuff that nobody else could play, but it doesn't really matter if it's not enjoyable to listen to. On the other hand you have something like the Beatles or Nirvana, where the guitar is generally really simplistic, but people like the results.

And I suppose that gets to the question of why humans like music...

99- Happy belated! Music often soothes the soul and what a great album to soothe your soul.

Mjl - Thanks for your philosophical thought/s. If possible, and you would like to, please share some of your guitar playing on here.

Worthless semi related side note. I have a cousin in NY. He is 54 years old and has a 9 year old daughter. HE named her Cassidy. 100% because of the song.
Ah, child of countless trees.
Ah, child of boundless seas.
What you are, what you're meant to be
Speaks his name, though you were born to me,
Born to me,
Cassidy...

Our first daughter was almost named Cassidy. Until Mrs 99 figured out it was a GD song.

For me, it's difficult to appreciate country music when ever drum beat, every guitar and every singer sound exactly the same.

Sometimes you have to slow it down a tap.

Haha. For both kids, when I put them to bed I sing them the Dead's version of I Bid You Goodnight, with some lyrics slightly altered given that we're not Christian.

Man, as crazy as this year’s been, I just heard Blink 182 in a BMW commercial, and that might legit be the most fucked up thing about 2020 so far.
