While somewhat factual, my guess is most people don't comprehend how misleading that is.

First off, we need to take in to account that McDonalds is GLOBAL.
FROM WHAT I HAVE READ.....

A. Obviously 4.7 billion is huge but it's considerably less than what their profit was in 2019.
Their net income was down over 20%.
B. Their earnings per share were down 20%.
C. Kempczinski's SALARY was not 11 million. His "base salary" was under 1 million. He took a 50% pay cut for a large part of 2020.
For a company that made 4.7 billion in "profit", 1 million is an extremely small salary for a CEO to have.
D. Is he referring to the "median" worker in the USA or Globally? Either way, very few (if any) McDonald workers are forced to work at McDonald's. The do as such by choice.
Did he take in to account that there are benefits and compensation that are given to the workers?
E. I have little doubt that they are closing SOME restaurants to "avoid raising pay" but that's not the reason for every McDonalds that is closing.
ALSO, I assume he realizes that many McDonalds are owned and operated by independent owners and operators. Does he fault them or just corporate?

My wife saw the sign one day and wanted to try it out so she could get her hair done. We used it three times and our baby came home ill two of the three times. Once was some sort of rotavirus that she passed to me. I didn't eat solid food for 12 days and lost 15 pounds at a time I didn't have 15 to give. The other was Hand, Foot and Mouth disease.
I'm truly sorry to hear/read that!
I have no doubt that there are many things that are "spread" in day care centers.
Just as I also have no doubt that your child (and/or any child) could contract something on a playground, in a pool, at the grocery store, in an elevator, at a restaurant, etc., etc., etc.
I admit my ignorance and perhaps you can help me. Why is a day care center more of a germ cesspool than let's say a Kindergarten or 1st grade classroom?

For a couple of years I spent two hours one or two days a week "mentoring" kids at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago. The kids ranged from 1st grade to 8th grade. We were in both classrooms and "playrooms".
Thankfully I (nor any of the kids to the best of my knowledge) never contracted anything other than maybe a common cold. Seems perhaps that was an anomaly and I should just consider myself fortunate.
Because they change a lot of diapers in common locations in a day care and many viruses like this are passed through fecal matter.

It's nice not to spend money on daycare and it's a luxury to be in a situation where you don't need it. Not everyone is so fortunate. Some of it is a personal choice based on the careers of the parents and some of it is the availability of family/friends who can provide care at little or no cost. Again, that's a luxury as well.

It doesn't make you a shitty parent who didn't want kids in the first place if you find yourself in a situation where you require daycare. That's just pure Lobster ignorance. If "have no career desires that would prevent them from being the full time child care provider" and/or "live near famioly who will provide full time free child care" were required check boxes in his search for a spouse then that's his choice but they weren't some of my check boxes and they aren't for many others. My wife doesn't work a traditional work day and I didn't when we had our first baby so we were able to avoid it.

A. How crazy is it that 4.7 billion (with a B) can be “considerably less”
B. Even if their earnings per share were down, I doubt many shareholders had to go to bed hungry
C. Not sure if a $1 million base salary is “extremely small” to many people. How much more is that than the average worker’s income! And unlike average workers, the CEO prob got all sorts of other $ on top of that salary.
D. That’s a good point as far as where these workers are. But while workers “choose” to work at McDonald’s, many may not have better work opportunities available, and many workers can’t not work, for a number of reasons
E. Another good point about independent owners vs. Corporate, and exactly the reasons why certain McDonald may close... but for that matter, there may be many reasons why service industries can’t find workers, but we’ve already decided the only culprit must be gummint handouts. (And just poor folks unemployment handouts, cuz when rich folks get handouts they’re just being savvy bidnessmen)

But yeah, this may be misleading. But it also may be a prime example of disproportionately valuing shareholders over stakeholders. The latter is poor so the former can get rich.

“Poverty doesn’t exist cuz we can’t fulfill the needs of the poor, it exists cuz we can’t fulfill the desires of the wealthy”

Why are you opposed to sustainable economies that value stakeholders too?

I'm not a big Dan Price fan. Tweets a lot of stupid shit that sounds cute. But you should at least know who he is so you don't make yourself look SO stupid. From wikipedia:
Dan Price is an American Internet entrepreneur.[1] He is the CEO of the online credit card processing company Gravity Payments, which he started while a student at Seattle Pacific University.[1][2] He gained recognition after he raised his company’s minimum salary to $70,000, and lowered his own from $1.1 million to $70,000 in 2015.[3][4] He extended the same minimum wage to all employees of ChargeItPro, a company Gravity Payments acquired.[5] In March 2020, Price said that the pay raise has worked well for the company in particular, but he hesitated to call it a full success because income inequality in the broader world has continued to grow.[6]
He's an idiot, but he's also a successful businessman who sticks to his principles.

Sigh.

I’d like my point of view precisely to be sustainable and practical. If there’s something about the details that you think isn’t, please feel free to discuss.

In the context of economics, I believe that rethinking the de facto mission statements of companies to be something more than just shareholder earnings, and rethinking resource consumption to not be so exhaustive, are ways to achieve practical sustainability. But again, if you believe otherwise, please do correct me.

Honestly, I try to vet info whenever I can. I’m leery of YouTube or other sources that seem less objective and more self-confirming and narrative-driven.

And again - and I don’t know how many times I have to saw this - I get on Reddit only rarely, and when I do it’s usually not for economic discussions, but for specific music or fishing info or niche porn. (Giggity)

(And I’m tempted to point out the irony of you calling me lobster, even though you’re the one who wants “out of the discussion” rather than engage in good faith, but I honestly don’t want to antagonize)

A lot of idiots are successful businessmen, maybe most, you ever hear of mypillow? Smart people convince themselves that no one will buy a pet rock and then don't do it.

As for Dan, he is just like so many who are out there making themselves happy with little tweets that are cute. But he ignores long term effects, or ignores the big picture. It's just cute rhetoric that appeals to people who say the same thing.

He also beat his ex-wife, people who do that are idiots.

Whoa, didn’t know he was a wife beater, gross.

But what’s the long term big picture of paying your employees better salaries? Maybe one less vacation home for Dan, but the employees might actually be able to retire some day too?

The shame!

I'm talking about all his tweets, He mostly tweets just little cute things that have no substance, or takes shots at companies without perspective or context.

And, what would be wrong with starting someone out at 40K, and seeing if they're any good before giving them 70K, and rather than paying everyone 70K, maybe you pay your very best employees, 90 or 100k, and your shitty ones maybe never get above 50K?

I think rewarding everyone the same creates complacency and results in a tragedy of the commons. It's the same reason I hated group projects where everyone got the same grade, I had to bust my ass while Ousdahl didn't do jack shit, and then we both got an A.
