Elmarko's only elite tool right now is that he is athletic.
Big athletic PG. He has the things you can't teach. Trust Bill to teach him the rest, he's shown flashes.

Compare elmarko to what frank or devonte or dajuan were as freshman

We were having this conversation before he was hurt.

Can't you see that it is VERY BAD SIGN that you are looking to lightly-recruited guys as reasons for hope here?

I would also dispute that he is a "big [...] PG", in that he is neither of those two things (and he is certainly not those two things at the same time).

Elmarko has the worst hands/handle of anyone who plays on a regular basis.

I don't disagree with any of that other than the last part. He hasn't really shown any flashes imo.

Also still unsure if he's actually a PG or more of a SG who can't shoot.

The thing about dajuan is He's an elite role player that some unrealistic fans are wanting to grow into a star. But he just doesn't have the tools to be that. He's near his ceiling. He's never going to wake up being a quick explosive PG
His PPG are down from last year, his FG% is down (from 47.1% to 43.3%), his two point FG% is down, his three point FG% is down, his assists per game are up 0.3 apg but his turnovers are up 0.2 per game. His rebounds per game are down as are his steals per game. Almost all of his advanced metrics are down.

Sorry, but that's regression. We didn't need him to be a star this year; we just needed him to get better and he didn't.

He hasn't shown the between the ear skills to learn is the problem. He still dribbles way too much and forces bad plays, not to mention completely forgets what he is doing out there. He doesn't seem to be learning as the season goes on.

we used to say "the best thing about freshmen is they become sophmores." and they do become sophmores. problem is, they become sophmores at another school.

has any starting pg on a NC team ever been as run down by his fanbase as DH has. probably not.

He's doing worse on fewer shots. That is not good!

We were having this conversation before he was hurt.
Mostly before Furphy emerged as a star-in-the-making, but yes.

JFC

3.8% is considered WAY down?

His 3pt shooting is down 0.8%

His pts per 100 possessions, which is more relevant than ppg when comparing different seasons, is only down 1.4pts, which is mostly explained by playing with KM and HD (hell, Kj averages 12.3pts too)....last season we only had 2 guys average more than 11pts per game. This year our top 3 scorers average nearly as many points as our top 4 scorers from last year.

My god. Step away from the ledge.

Maybe at a school like Kentucky.

1.3 shots less per 100 possessions.

That's not a big difference imo.

his quality of shot is considerably worse. He's having to force shots, force spinning twirling scoops on drives because literally nobody else is doing anything eventually he ends up with the ball and no time.

He hasn't been the person I've had an issue with this year.

A 4% difference is significant...especially when you're talking about a starting place (47%) that isn't great to begin with.

As starting-level (>24 mpg) guards, some selected (sub-star) best/worst 2P% seasons...

Miles - 42.6% / 49.0%
Robinson - 39.6% / 55.7%
E. Johnson - 42.8% / 56.4%
Tharpe - 50.0%
Vick - 49.6% / 56.9%
Garrett - 47.3% / 49.7%

Marcus Garrett was really only a PG for 1 season, right?

I don't really count him as a PG. Dotson was the PG for 2 of his years.
