If the university is associated with a med school, that could also be a consideration. If you're sharing hallways and restrooms with people on the frontlines, that coukd move you up.

My daughter is a grad student at a lab in a UC that is dual affiliation with the med school (her enrollment is not in med school). Her research requires that she be present in the lab every day. She just got her first dose. Meanwhile, late-50’s me and spouse are on next tier and waiting.

Mrs 99 had both shots. I was just declared an essential worker so I am next up in the queue.

That is my gut feeling, too, here in Lawrence. Hopefully I'll have both vaccinations by the end of May but I'm not counting on it.

Demand is lower than people realize from what I am understanding.

Interesting. And they do mention the unsure demand. My guess is that's higher than expected. It's not just that the anti-vax movement has gotten huge in the right-wing disinformation circles, though it has.

I think there's an underestimation of the laziness of people to make an appointment and go get the shot(s).

My company is trying to incentive it by giving employees $100 for getting vaccinated. That's pretty cool - if effective that's a $50 million investment.

Just a guess, but I think anti-vax has grown immensely just over the course of the past year, year and a half, due to the growth of the right-wing conspiracy crowd. So while numbers for the decade may have improved, I'm curious as to what those numbers would be just now.

From what I saw, around 2010ish, flu vaccine rate was near 70%. In 2019, it was 50%. So, by encouraging, I was responding to people being too lazy to go out and get it. I was just stunned that we are at 50% and have been at 70% in the last decade for flu vaccine. If we could get around that 50% number that will do it on their own and then perhaps we can use programs, incentives, etc. to get another 20%ish.

Not to mention its a vaccine rolled out on an emergency authorization without the standard term testing and approval. Or that it uses a delivery method that is neither typical nor tested.

The astra zeneca one has been shut down in south africa. Apparently ineffective against the SA strain and may potentially increase risk.

I'm taking my mom to get Pfizer today. She starting fretting about the weather and the roads etc., and I about had a panic attack about her losing her spot. So I decided it wouldn't be up to her.
