Yep. And I think we need to be very clear: being a responsible gun owner is not enough.
We have to do more to prevent some people from purchasing legal firearms, especially those that can inflict a large amount of damage in a short period of time. It seems like a lot of these mass shootings are being done with legally purchased firearms. Some of the things being proposed are obviously over the top and would be an infringement on citizen's rights but some of them are common sense moves that would not prevent legal gun owners with no red flags from enjoying their 2nd Amendment freedom of purchasing firearms.
That's all well and good, but there is also no serious argument that the founding fathers would have supported what the second amendment has been used to do.
Telling that portion of our citizens that their understanding of the 2nd Amendment is flawed is an exercise in futility, so I realistically don't see any productive gains to be had there.

Where are the Constitutional Originalists on the thesis that 2nd Amendment only applies to weapons in existence in 1790? At least that’s Thomas and Alito’s interpretation for other aspects before the court. Thus, only single load rifles and handguns are covered?

Would public hangings of mass shooters stop the nonsense of mass shootings, or would that be too barbaric, too draconian?

applying the death sentence, more often, when applicable. couldn't hurt.

I mean, I know I’m ideologically “pro-life” about pretty much everything but abortion.
But for a second this little michhawk devil on my shoulder thought, wouldn’t we be saving an awful lot of taxpayer resources if cops just didn’t restrain that dude who went at the fucker in court?
But I also think that dood deserves to be thrown into prison with the general population…cuz, you know, justice

It probably deserves its own thread but here is my take on the death penalty, Mich’s simpleton views notwithstanding. The judicial system of The Greatest Country Ever is based on the principle that we would rather allow several guilty people to be acquitted of crimes than punish one innocent person (a unique principle, as far as I am aware). As such we have robust mechanisms to correct incorrectly administered punishments when the judicial system makes a mistake. Until such time when we have the ability to correct the course of an incorrectly administered death penalty it should be out of consideration. Otherwise we’ll be no different than the murderers who ostensibly deserve the ultimate punishment.

Turns out every single one of them was a "swatting" attempt and faked. Every single one. Ridiculous

I don't post here often but a lot more than just background checks need to happen.
Background checks mandatory, with a week or two waiting period, paid for with a tax on said gun.
Production of newer guns should halt. Any new gun should have zero semi auto/auto capabilities.
Bolt action. Double barrel or break action. Pump. That's it.
Newer guns should be built to prevent modifications - i.e. break the gun.
Max capacities of these guns should be 4 or 5.
No magazines or clips. You have to individually load each round.
Human beings hunted successfully with bows, spears, boomerangs, bolos.
You can manage with 4 shots from a rifle or shotgun.
I'd say the same thing for self defense - if you don't hit with your first one or two shots, you're probably in trouble anyways.
Buy back programs for guns that exist should be promoted. Give a reasonable x amount of years you have to return any gun that is deemed, on the list, as not one of the grandfathered in guns ( that are close to the gun modifications listed above ). After that time period, any gun not on the list is illegal, with seizure, fines and jail time depending on offense. Any modifications to a gun would face similar penalties.
No silly gun shows. Gun shops would have to be similar to ABC, a controlled centralized business with unified standards and practices.
If you reallly want to fire those more high powered weapons, there can be places you can fire them, renting them, on the premises, like a shooting range.
Either the drinking age should go down to 18 or the gun buying age should go up to 21.
( i'd prefer the latter, honestly, i'd prefer the option not listed above, drinking age to 18, gun buying to 21 ).
The 2nd Ammendment was intended for colonies/commonwealths/states that didn't have a standing army yet as a means to protect themselves. It was a new nation. Washington and the Federalists changed that in the mid 1790s when the Army was created to fight the Native Americans. If the States want to create militias, where people volunteer and train and have access to those weapons, much like joining the military but directly just for your state and not Federally bound in anyway, because they think/feel the State could rise against a tyrannical government, i'm in support of those members having access to the weaponry the National Armed Forces have ( though they would never get even close to the capabilities with pin point distance missiles, high speed jets, drones etc ).
Preach Biden.
Hey this is still valid.

I would still really like to see a double-barreled academic study of the benefits/drawbacks of a requirement, for gun ownership, of maintaining liability insurance. It leverages the market's ability to price risk on a case-by-case basis (as opposed to blanket gubmint mandates), and it's something everyone has COMPLETELY accepted as a rational cost of enjoying a freedom.

I used to live right next door to that place.
As if this shit isn't freaky enough, it's always that much freakier when it hits close to home.
