soooo

so the new justice was nominated by a president who loost the popular vote by 3 million.

The 49 senators who voted “no” represent 181 million Americans

The 51 senators who voted “yes” represent 143 million.

Exactly. Not a democracy. I am always amazed at how many college students (and, apparently, grown adults) will adamantly argue that we live in a democracy and that they are somehow being screwed over by the system.

Yeah who cares if a representative democracy ain’t representative! #winning

The whole point of the Senate is to fuck up democracy.

Electoral College too.

That's the WHOLE POINT.

Repeal the 17th!

It is representative - proportionately representative of the country as a whole. You already knew that; you just don’t like it.

Why? Why is that a good thing to give more power to smaller states? Why do we need both the senate and electoral college to do this? Wouldn't it seem better to only have one that is skewed?

The Electoral College was created for two reasons. The first purpose was to create a buffer between population and the selection of a President...The founding fathers were afraid of direct election to the Presidency. They feared a tyrant could manipulate public opinion and come to power.

It forces candidates to be accountable to the so-called “flyover states” in order to be elected. Without the Electoral College, candidates would pander to New York, California, Texas, and Florida and tell the rest of us to screw off.

Then wouldn't they do that to minorities now? Every voting block is critical, even if it's based more evenly on population.

How are minorities unrepresented?

Last time I checked, every citizen gets one vote, regardless of ethnicity.

They sure do.
The key is, make it as difficult as possible to cast that vote.

Did you learn nothing from Karl Rove?
