Isn't tempo rating also influenced by how slow a team makes other teams play?

They shot 26 3s because about 18 of them were wide fucking open....and of the 16 they made, only 3 were "lucky" prayers/bank shots.
I stayed off the boards Saturday evening and most of Sunday morning. I assumed it was going to be a complete shit show with people loosing their minds and overreacting to the worst conference loss of the Self era.

Imagine my surprise when I finally logged back in to find that the overall mood of the board seemed to be, "meh, they got hot from 3, it happens."

Twighlight zone.

My dad said something similar...."everyone always has career shooting nights against us"....I said "because we fucking suck at defense and don't take care of the ball".....it's not luck.

But in all seriousness, would the fact that Virginia is good at defense impact their tempo rating? I'm not sure how it's calculated exactly.

Tech's shooting turned the game from a loss to a blowout. It didn't turn it from a win to a loss. It's not that hard of a concept to grasp.

Only similar game I can recall is Villanova.

pdub wrote: Sun Feb 24, 2019 5:14 pm One issue with Bill Selfs teams is guarding the three. We typically aren’t elite/very good at doing so.
Bill Self's Kansas teams have had one season in the top 25 in guarding the 3 ( 2011 ).
They have averaged 49th ( which isn't bad for a college team but not good for a team like Kansas ) in guarding the 3 since his being here.
Of course a reason for this is the defensive style, overcommitting to guarding the paint is why we have done so well guarding the 2.
But with teams being more reliant on the 3, this is notable.

Without a shot blocker/rim protector we have trouble guarding anything.

We had some historically good seasons of interior defense during the Withey/Cole eras. Embiid was good too. Hell, even Kaun and DJax were good at interior defense, even though not really shot blockers.....but the last handful of years have been awful defensively. Both interior and on the perimeter. Unacceptable.

Define awful. Because we've been a top 20 defense this year. We were not good last year. 2017 we were Top 25. 2016 we were #3.

Save it for the last game.
I won’t be at that one. I won’t care. And I do t expect any chance of losing to Baylor at home.

A lot of elite teams have had down years like this.
We are truly spoiled in that being in the hunt for the conference crown is a given every year, down or not.

Like after 3 games?

Because our DRtg is 123rd as of this morning.

Yup. Good problem to have.

We've been the most consistent program for a while.

It is very true that our "down" years have featured failures in one (or both) of these areas:

1. Multiple reliable ballhandling guards

2. A "funnel them to me" interior defender, who can erase some problems posed by aggressive backcourt defense

Our scheduling team doesn't have down years, that's for sure.

Don't know that it'll be enough to save us from leaving KC, but Jesus will some 1 or 2 get bent out of shape if we're a 3 or 4 in KC.

it would be funny ( well not that funny but kinda funny ) if ksu won the b12 and ended up a 5 seed in DC or Ville and we ended up a 4 in KC.
