Would somebody go by and check on 99 to see if his back is better?
tia
99's back is not better.
Did you hurt it bringing in the giant ellipitical machine that your wife had delivered since gyms are closed right now and that the fedex guy decided to drop off at the furthest possible spot from your home that could still be considered technically on your property?
Cause that's why mine is hurting.
I hope yours feels better than mine.

Welp guys. Mrs. Newton is a nurse for a small community hospital and in her department (surgery) they are being furloughed. So basically jobless. Mrs Newton is now likely going to do travel nursing to a Covid hotspot and go that way as we can’t afford the unemployment as it stands now in Kansas even with the expansion.
I’d appreciate some good thoughts headed my way during this time. It’s tough going for sure. I’m hoping for the absolute best.
None of our business, and I'm sure you're as busy as hell, but if you're inclined, an update would be appreciated. Hope things are going well.

Hey all. Thanks for the words and thoughts.
She’s a few days in. And she’s dealt with as somewhat expected. First day a patient died of virus with family on the phone. Every patient she has had is positive. Some more severe than others. For example, every one today was stable and good enough to where she could break for 15 minutes or so. Other than that it’s 12 hours of hard work.
But she’s in as good spirits as she can be. Medical staff in Detroit is very appreciative of any support they can get. They love to give her a bit of shit since she’s from Kansas and “there’s nothing to do there” so she’s enjoyed some friendliness there.
They are gowned up all day. So she’s always overheated and sweaty. But she’s there to work and that’s what she loves to do. All staff there on mandated overtime. So they’re all overworked and exhausted.
About a fifth of the way through her stay. She’s doing alright and trying to push through. Tomorrow is a well deserved day off for her so she’s going to rest and relax as much as possible.

Glad she's OK. Mrs 99 was issued an N-95 mask last week. It gets sterilized at the end of her shift and they've asked her not to wear makeup. Not that she needs any with the mask on her face all night.

Yeah thankfully they got dozens of by N-95 masks donated to her and about 50 cloth masks for her and her friend. They feel as safe as possible with the N-95 and a cloth masks over that.
Thanks for the kind words everyone. It’s an adjustment. She does well when she works. Struggles when she’s alone in her room with nothing to do but laundry and TV (which she doesn’t watch much of)
We’ve updated a lot of people back home with updates on their day though a Facebook group. They give a recap and whatnot. She has a ton of support through there and it helps keep her going. She’ll post something and immediately dozens of people comment giving her encouragement. And since she only talks to me and the kids when she has time, she feels amazing reading those.
Also, a film company out of Seattle reached out to her for a documentary, so she might be doing that as well. Where she shoots them a video of her recap of the day, what she saw, how she feels, etc.
She’s a rockstar. She’s compassionate beyond belief and has a heart of gold. She is my hero. Thanks guys. Remind me to post something here every so often. I have kind of forgotten about here without sports going on, but it’s a nice little outlet for me to pass along information and all that.
Thank you.

That's good news Newton. I hope she stays healthy. I didn't realize I had some N95 masks in my basement that I used when I was cleaning the stone masonry walls in my basement and painting them with drylock. I probably have 5-6 left unused. Not sure if I should donate them? I keep one in my car to wear to the grocery store.

So I bought some hand sanitizer that's made by a distillery in Olathe, called Good Spirits. It's got Everclear in it. Every time I smell my hands afterwards it brings back bad memories of high school.

Damn Newton, I got verklempt and had to take a break before I could respond. Then, I read your posts to a lawyer I once slept with, and had to gather myself, again.
Bless your wife. What a gift she is to us all.
Your wife's story is just the sort of inspiring vignette we all need to hear as the near and long-term realities of the pandemic's clandestine, protoplasmic insinuation into every aspect of our lives and society, are revealed.
"Eighty percent of life is showing up."
Your wife is "a rockstar", because she's "showing up". People who actually "show up" make the difference. Without people who are willing to run into the burning building, it would be hopeless, we'd be lost. But, we're not "lost", precisely because of people like your wife.
Please tell her thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

I believe Burning Man is in August and my guess is it MAY still go on but this made me laugh.
