Everything is racism. All the time. Except when it is also misogyny. But racism.
[/quote]

Gee, the Civil War and the Civil Rights era were not about racism. Who knew?

“ Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde's Response to the President

The President just used a Bible and one of the churches of my diocese as a backdrop for a message antithetical to the teachings of Jesus and everything that our church stands for. To do so, he sanctioned the use of tear gas by police officers in riot gear to clear the church yard.

I am outraged.

The President did not pray when he came to St. John’s; nor did he acknowledge the agony and sacred worth of people of color in our nation who rightfully demand an end to 400 years of systemic racism and white supremacy in our country.

We in the Diocese of Washington follow Jesus in His Way of Love. We aspire to be people of peace and advocates of justice. In no way do we support the President’s incendiary response to a wounded, grieving nation. In faithfulness to our Savior who lived a life of non-violence and sacrificial love, we align ourselves with those seeking justice for the death of George Floyd and countless others through the sacred act of peaceful protest.”

I thought I had seen it all with Trump. I think this latest stunt is in first place by a wide margin.

The protests in my city were much larger yesterday for BLM than it was a few weeks ago for reopening.

The BLM protest yesterday was peaceful. Nothing crazy happened. Lots of white people were there. About 50/50 mix of PoC and white people. I wish they'd have been more organized about who they handed the microphone too. It devolved into a bunch of weird rants and cussing for no good reason. There were a handful of people who spoke who had meaningful messages and then several hours of extremely random speeches from people just walking up and getting on the microphone. Glad they demonstrated, but felt a bit like a missed opportunity.

I'm not going to create a sock but I will switch to one of my other identities - Sarcastic Grandma.
Sarcastic Grandma says - That sucks Illini! I'm sorry those who felt the need to speak and be heard didn't appease you and say what you wanted them to say!

Back to "normal" Grandma - My 86 year old mother was coming back from getting an injection in her eye and.... She was very upset about that, very upset that her "nice" neighborhood is pretty much completed boarded up and closed down, very upset about feeling the need (yes, "need" as medical professionals have told her) to have to wear a mask everywhere she goes, and while she was riding in a cab - the cab driver told her, "You better watch out - the Mexicans are coming". He wasn't joking. She said he kept going on and on about how the Mexicans are going to start rioting now.

God Bless America 2020!
