Where are you slotting him? It’s not an insult to say he’s pretty average as our bigs have gone…because we’ve had amazing bigs.

As you know, I’m not really a Perry or Dedric fan, but they were better in my opinion. I don’t think there’s an argument that Dave is any HIGHER than those two.

Whats the source there? Makes sense tho
The co-owner of the company I work for is a pretty major booster/donor and is involved with Mass Strategies...he passes a lot of tidbit info to our VP who I'm pretty tight with. Not all the stuff I've been told over the years is correct, but a good portion of it usually is.

I’m reacting to “Dave should have been our second best big”. Meh.

Hmm. Our best second-best bigs have been…

Sasha/Darnell (to Shady)
Marcus/Markieff (to Cole)
Withey (to Robinson)
Lucas (to Perry)
Doke (to Dedric)
Dave (to Doke)
Jalen (to Dave)

Two seasons stand out (to me) as having a second big that was better than Senior Dave.

Let it go man. Everything else you said was spot on. But Dave was arguably the 3rd best center self has had. He was clutch we fuck in the final four and won a title.. And all these examples in this post were from an era where we played 2 bigs still

He was our lone big on a national championship team. Obviously he was a pretty good post. Hard to beleive he's still underappreciated after watching this years teams struggles without dave

If it’s centers only, I think Dave’s a clear fifth. In some order, Cole, Doke, Embiid and Withey are all (to me) obviously better.

Would love to see them get someone who is interchangeable between big and wing. KJ with a jump shot and better handles.

Joel Embiid?

But with DMac, it’s a Jekyll and Hyde thing.

Good Dave was a piece on a contender.

Bad Dave was like he’d never even seen a basketball before

Exactly. Embiid was hands down the most talented center self has ever had. A modern wilt with skills

But he was raw and didn't even play a full season

I would definitely agree that DMac was one of our weaker no. 1 bigs.
But to say he should have been our 2nd best big isn't accurate unless you're talking just a few seasons ( and some of our best seasons ):

2nd best bigs:

Better than:
05 Moody
06 DJax
07 DJax or Kaun
08 DJax ( this one I almost put in about even but Dave just was more skilled and DJax benefited from the wealth of talent around him including the other rotating bigs )
09 Marcus
13 Kevin Young
15 Cliff
16 Landen
17 Udoka? Or if just lone big, then better than Landen
18 DeSousa/Lightfoot
20 Himself
21 No. 1 Big
22 No. 1 Big

About even:
12 Withey ( Withey was pretty one dimensional offensively )
14 Ellis and Embiid was great for like a month and a half so then, considering that, you have Tarik Black, and you'd move that up to better than
19 Dok was out most of the season but if you're counting Dok here, than Dok

Not better than:
10 Marcus
11 Kief

So a couple of the seasons where it was close have asterisks by them ( due to injury ).
And then you have 2 of our best teams under Self all time because our bigs were the Morris twins.

it’s a travesty that Moody is there

KY did well punching above his weight, but the same could be said for him

I don't think McCormack/Withey is remotely close to a toss-up.

In Dave's best season, his ORtg was 116.5 and his DRtg was 94.5. .210 WS/40.

Withey was better in each of those measures, in each of his junior and senior seasons.

Dave had a really nice senior year, and absolutely he came on at the right time. But he wasn't in the same area code as Withey, big picture.

Junior Withey didn’t average double digit points. He was similar to Landen Lucas in getting a lot of his points just by laying it in. He wasn’t very good offensively. TRob and Ty did the lifting.

Withey was 3rd team B12.
Dave 2nd.

that says as much (if not more) about the rest of the league as it does about either Withey or Dave

not a good stat for this discussion, imo

If you are a 1-2 seed-type, and you need to go win a basketball game, are you choosing Jr/Sr Withey, or Sr Dave.

If you're choosing Sr Dave, I question your BBIQ.
