Berhalter out.
Newton rejoices.
I’m fine with this. I don’t think he was nearly as bad as the lunatic Sam’s Army euro nerd type fan that makes up a lot of the base made him out to be but the US has underwhelmed this year.
Issue now is the fear of equity that came with the women’s side pretending the US was being unfair with $$…ie the womens coach apparently must be paid as much as the men’s—which will likely limit top choices.

Just a peak into how political USMNT is:
https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/ ... terest-usa
It’s just a drama filled organization top to bottom.

Yup.
Has been for a long time.

There’s a really sexist joke in here somewhere connecting the recent drama to the men’s and women’s team/game/everything being equal.

I don't know who you wanted to win but I enjoyed watching the last 25 minutes of the first half and most of the 2nd half of the game/match.
I thought for sure England was going to score in the 89 minute mark.
Also, seemed Oyarzabal (Jose Maria
) MAY have been offsides on his goal.

Nah.
He was on by the defenders arm.
There are so few goals I wish they’d change offsides to simply if any part of the defender would be in line/parallel with any part of the attacker, it’s onsides.
That would lead to more chances at goal.
I was rooting for Spain as I used them as my DK draw breaker in regulation at +150. If I hadn’t put money on it, I’d have cheered for England.
But yes, that Spain player saved a goal with his head right after the goalie made a good save. Pretty sweet.

So.... I messed up and fell asleep during overtime of the Argentina/Columbia game (and during a heck of a storm that rolled through Chicago). Not happy I missed seeing the outcome.
Before it started, I wanted Argentina to win, but found myself rooting for the underdog when I was watching.
Any thoughts/comments about the shit show in Miami last night?
I'm talking OFF the field.
Embarrassing.

The US was not in charge here - that needs to be clear - this was CONMEBOLs failures.
I didn’t watch the Uruguay US game but heard it was atrociously officiated in favor of Uruguay.
This was a South American tournament looking out for itself and its organization….US barely got a cut.

Much of the knockout round, I felt the CONCACAF teams were getting a raw deal.
That said…the South American game is a combination of cool physical play and violent flipping and embellishment.
It’s really some, for lack of better terms, bitch ass way to play.

It was funny to watch Euro during the day and COPA at night and see the glaring difference.
England v Netherlands no one flopped around like fish on contact - it was a fantastic game - there was zero injury time in the first half - remarkable.
Meanwhile, last night Messi alone took up 5 minutes of drama.

It’s 100% machismo/drama influence. Such behavior has been mitigated out of the game for the most part in the rest of the world.
I’m having KU club soccer flashbacks playing against the team native to Paraguay.

Do we ever move on from Vermes?

Cascadia used to go on and on about how shitty the MLS was and how much better the Mexican league was.
One our worst teams just beat the second best team in the Mexican Leon the Leagues Cup WITH the Guatemalan official helping the Mexican team as much as he could.
Last year no Mexican team made it to the finals.

I’ve watched, in earnest, the MLS for at least 10 years. The talent now vs 10+ years ago is night and day.

New National Coach for US soccer.
Pochettino—I don’t think any international experience but has coached some big teams in Europe.
Will be coaching USAs next game in early September v Canada in KC.
