What’s the bang for buck roaster?

Is just doing it in your oven any good?

I use a $15 hot air popcorn popper. Works great.
Do not try this in your oven.

Why not in the oven? Not gonna, just curious.

How much do you roast at a time and how long is a roasted batch fresh for?

I’m tempted to try it, and amend my “brew method more important than beans” take to include something about how maybe most coffee just isn’t fresh.

There is a lot of odor, good odor but it's thick and gets into fabric.
There is also a lot of smoke. And you need a way to agitate the beans as they roast, I do this by shaking the popcorn popper. There is a lot of chaff that flies off and can make a mess.

I do 3 full popcorn chambers, it fills the grinder hopper and lasts about a week.

The super freshness wears off after about a month.
