Illinois, coached by a Kansas State alum, playing Kansas State, coached by an Illinois reject.

It's the consolation game in Kansas City, in front of 10's of fans.

Ready for UCLA/Zags tonight. Desperately need to read something on this board besides a bunch of middle-aged men defending LeBron James like he's their son.

Coach Ks keeds:

Asked at one point during his postgame session with reporters if he has "any regrets about what happened," Banchero replied, "No."

What did the Banchero kid even do? All I can find is that he was riding in the backseat of the car and had been drinking.

how old is he?

does he have any responsibility to represent his university and the b-ball program positively?

Are we really pretending that a basketball player drinking while in college is a big deal?

you asked what he did wrong

1) committed a crime by drinking underage

2) arguably violated the expectations in the Duke student code of conduct (i couldn’t find one specific to b-ball players)

All members of the Duke University community should conduct their activities with integrity, both in fact and in appearance…

of course college students drink and do other illegal stuff, but he’s a ball player and got caught.

should he be held to a different standard than any other student that gets caught?

i think there’s a decent argument that he should be held to a higher standard than other students

LOL. I will pass on this discussion. We've had way too many off court issues that we don't get hysterical about involving our players for me to be all worked up that Banchero isn't getting suspended for an underage drinking ticket.

The crime was this “aiding and abetting” law.

It’s when a person “knowingly encourages, aids, advises, or instigates another person to drive, or attempt to drive, while impaired.”

The most common scenario is turning over their keys to an impaired driver, and/or being present as a passenger when the driver is arrested for DWI.

It’s sentenced like a “level 5 DWI” offense, with a fine of up to $200 and a minimum jail time of 24 hours, max 60 days, with the possibility of community service in lieu of jail time.

It was 19yo Paolo’s car, with 20yo Coach K the Third driving.

Yeah it might be a dumb law, and yeah college kids drink all the time. But yeah, if there was any actual dookie code of conduct, it just seems this would be a violation.

And call me a homer but IMHO I think any DWI-related charge is more serious and should bear more punishment than BRush and Devonte’s bench warrants for unpaid traffic tickets.

I hope it's a good game; there are enough good players on both teams that it should at least be entertaining. With a 9pm CT start, it better be entertaining or I'll be snoozing by the end of it.

THIS. People are mostly just trying to make it into a "he only didn't get suspended because he's a Duke star" when it's just that it is a dumb law that would be absurd to suspend a player over. I can't believe it is still being discussed at all. It's an insignificant nothing.

It's impossible for some people to be rational about certain teams/schools/people. K is one that comes to mind. LeBron another.

This instance seems especially silly to be worried about. He isn't getting suspended.

We have a great team. I am more worried about them than i am worried about comparing how Self punished BRush for parking tickets a decade ago. Different schools. Different coaches. Different players. Different situations.

Today also has:
Wisconsin vs. #12 Houston
#14 Illinois vs. Kansas State
Cincinnati vs. #13 Arkansas

Plenty of good hoops leading up to the Gonzaga vs. UCLA game.

nobody is hysterical

don’t ask a silly question and then get mad when it gets answered

i fully expect any and all of our players to do the time if they do the crime, regardless of draft status

I didn't say he should get a pass. I just don't think suspension from games is the only form of punishment that exists.

If a Kansas player got a similarly BS charge, I would not expect them to be suspended at all as has been proven out repeatedly under Self. Hating Duke, which I do, doesn't mean I have to be unreasonable and inconsistent just to prove what a good fan I am.
