I can only speak for myself, but I think (and hope) that we're really only mad on the edges of the argument (and that neither of us really enjoys how often the argument finds those edges).

I only get "mad" when his holier-than-thou 'tude comes through, which isn't all that often.
Fish can sometimes write with condescendence and, I don't think this subject, which is far far more subjective than others, warrants it.
He's done a better job recently recognizing this instead of discrediting and minimizing a valid take on the sport that is different than his.

To his credit, his posting/writing skills are elite enough to be able to have several distinct tones.

Especially cuz among all those players and fans and even coaches and such, what’s to suggest they all wanna preserve some sanctity of amateurism, rather than just wanna win no matter what?

Generally, some sorta economic talking point like “the demand will create the market” or whatever.

With as many kids with pro athlete aspirations, and with as many agents and wannabe agents and agents to be, not to mention handlers and hangers-on and various other types, that surround recruits - even the non-elite ones - it just seems like the means will follow the money.

So, perhaps, if college decides to double down on some sorta amateurism, to the exclusion of money, then the money, and the talent, will go elsewhere.

Or something.

But I guess count me among the crowd that’s OK with putting the under-the-table money in college sports now on the table, rather than effectively encouraging recruits with pro aspirations to consider anywhere BUT college.

At least in some vacuum of college athletics.

It's cool but not nearly the excitement to see new freshmen come in and follow their careers at Kansas.

It's now more business.
