I know a couple of people who are not 65 or older but have given a shit ton of money to Northwestern University and Hospital.
They have not been notified yet that they are "eligible" to get vaccinated through the hospital.
As my mother has been.
I am in the heart of Chicago 2 blocks away from a major hospital and I can't get an appointment ANYWHERE in the city to get vaccinated.
Meanwhile, I know someone who was doing "social work" in "the ghetto" last week and she told me that there were people going door to door taking residents to go get vaccinated.
Riddle me that Batman - other than Wally telling me/us - "See, I told you there is no such thing as systemic racism and it sucks more to be a wealthy white person in America than it does to be a poor black person".

We knew it was going to take some time to get everyone vaccinated. At least I did anyways.

I’m wondering just out of curiosity if any/many people were mask wearers and still contracted their Covid illness. Does anyone know if there are some statistics on this?

Masks dont stop you from getting it, they help prevent you from spreading it. Theoretically

they reduce the chance of you getting it (and getting a severe case), as well as reducing the chance of transmission to others

severity is dose-dependent, so anything you can do to reduce your overall contact is a benefit

There needs to be a study done, asking Covid sufferers whether or not they wore masks. You never hear anything about people who wore masks and then became ill. I'm in favor of masking up btw.

yeah cuz there’s two types of people in this world:

Those who say, I had to go though this, but others shouldn’t have to too.

And those who say, I had to go through this, so others should have to too.

Masks also help the wearer. To what extent is relatively unknown.

So, the fabric reduces droplets going out of the mask, but not going in?

Someone wanna explain that to me.

The virus is spread through droplets of moisture when people talk, sneeze, cough, breath. Masks reduce the amount of that, particularly the larger sized droplets, and reduce how far they travel. Not sure how anyone could argue that they don't work or that they don't work both for the wearer and others. I mean, we can quarrel over how well they work, they certainly aren't 100% effective, but, all the evidence suggests they have a positive impact.

Look, if Lobster didn't hoard masks and price gauge the chinese someone else would have.

Lobster doesn't give to charity, because someone else might not, and if we don't all give to charity, that means those who don't give have more money, it's as simple as that. Don't be charitable, it's for the gullible.

Let's say you're car breaks down and you need to get it towed. Don't pay the guy for towing it, that's for suckers.

Rules to live by brought to you by lobster.

Come on man! Wally is an expert. He knows everything and has all the answers.
Why bother going to people such as infectious disease experts (other than Fauci and Birx) for their opinions when we have Wally to tell us all "100% this"?

Where did I say I "have all the answers"?

Fauci sure doesn't.

"masks don't help" (early 2020)
"everyone needs to wear a mask" (mid 2020)
"everyone should wear 2 masks" (early 2021)

You didn't say you had all the answers. You responded to TDub's post in which he said, "Masks dont stop you from getting it, they help prevent you from spreading it. Theoretically"
Your response was - "Yep. 100% this".
I don't believe it is "100% this" nor do people who are much more knowledgeable than you and I.

As far as your bringing up Fauci, I said in my post "besides Fauci".
I called out Fauci from day 1 but as dumb as I am, I am smart enough to know that Anthony Fauci is a LOT smarter of a man than you are in regards to infectious diseases.
I also said many months ago that right or wrong, I wouldn't be shocked if Fauci was told by the "task force" that there was a serious shortage of PPE (partially because people such as yourself were hoarding them and selling them to people in China?) and to POSSIBLY to lie to the American public in regards to the need of wearing a mask.
Regardless, I don't and won't forgive Fauci even if that was the case.

I would expect it has to do with velocity, in a couple different ways. Cloth masks don't have anywhere near perfect seals, so inhaling (low velocity) means you're drawing in air that isn't going through the mask. So there's an inbound issue.

Outbound, particularly when speaking, the velocity you're expelling air forces it through the mask, as opposed to around, "catching" larger droplets and slowing down smaller ones, such that they don't reach someone else.

Who the hell knows. Just spitballing.

No, I think you are exactly right.

And I do think it offers more protection for others than the person wearing it.

But it also definitely does protect the person wearing it...anything that reduces the size and number of droplets does. Wind is really good at it, for example. Multiple layers and higher thread counts are better...

I just don't like the idea that it doesn't offer protection to the wearer. We're talking about percentages of reduction, and it's pretty clear that there is a positive reduction for both the wearer and the individuals near the wearer.

Which is why everyone should wear a mask. None of us knows for sure that we don't have it (save a couple scenarios). So if I wear one and you wear one, we're both protecting each other and ourselves.

A seat belt protects the person who wears it, but it also keeps the driver in the driver seat so he can still grab the wheel and press the brake. So it protects people outside the car as well as inside it. If a safety precaution protects in more ways than one, we should highlight all the ways it works, rather than negating one because another occurs more often.
