Neither of you "share" these stories because you want "to show people that this is not a political ploy, it is a deadly disease." There is no one on this board who needs convincing or will be convinced. And you know it.

You're fucking ghouls.
i know that wasn’t directed at me, but do you not think these kinds of stories should be publicized in order to help convince those that are still unconvinced of the severity of this situation?

i can’t speak to anyone’s motivations by posting it here, but asking more generally

What if the the coronavirus crisis simply revealed the seamy underbelly of America's economy?

What if three decades of nearly free money, zero risk, and immeasurable moral hazard just came crashing down, and "reopening" isn't going to make that go away?

What if the Greenspan put became the Bernanke put, which morphed into the Yellen put and is now the Powell put?

What if...
"NYU professor Scott Galloway says the U.S. government needs to give aid to people, not companies. "[Businesses] want rugged individualism and capitalism on the way up, and then on the way down, we’re socialist, and we’re all in this together, and they have their hand out.

...what happens in an economic crisis, prices, prices should drop to their natural level and people like myself in the 2009 crisis get to buy Netflix at 12 bucks a share. There was a whole generation of young people that we are borrowing money against to try to do the same thing we always do and that is keep baby boomers rich..."

(Minor detail, but for reference about what the video opens with: Shake Shack got shamed and in response, returned the money it took from PPP govt stimulus “we've decided to immediately return the entire $10 million" so restaurants that "need it most can get it now.")
Agree on bankruptcy, without a question.

People don't seem to understand bankruptcy at all.

The only thing I disagree with Galloway about is the idea that these businesses "want capitalism and rugged individualism on the way up." They don't. But that's a minor point. He's absolutely right about the rest. Burn. It.The. Fuck. Down.

Sure. Publicize them.

But that's not what Doyel is doing. Doyel is reveling in his own self-reighteous indignation.

He's fucking gross.

If I heard correctly, I just heard a stat that close to 50% of businesses have let people go and that 50% of businesses will not be able to "reopen" as they once were in terms of near term recovery.

I also believe I heard that in March "normal vaccines" were down 80%.

OK, then.

On a friendlier note, they have released a study on air pollution in major cities during this time of lockdown and the declines have been staggering. Maybe this lock down will not only save people from dying from COVID-19 but also reduce the number of people who die from complications related to air pollution.

Far be it for me to defend anyone, but I am sorry I don't see any giddy. All I see are statement of facts: "A 60-year-old Ohio man, who called the coronavirus a "political ploy," has died of COVID-19" followed by the link to the news article.

Project much??

Haven’t you heard?

It’s not a big deal.
It’s a normal, healthy course correction.
If it saves healthcare workers’ lives, it’s worth you losing your home, your career, and your future.
The “right” people will be better off in the long run.
The people who get hurt deserve it.
It won’t trickle down to you.

I read about this late last night, and could only shake my head.

This is outrageous, ignorant, and unbelievable, on so many levels. Think about it, if your reputation, reelection, etc., were in the balance and not looking all that great based on your response to the pandemic so far, wouldn't you want the best people in the positions where they can do the most good, the fastest, to mitigate the damage and make you look better? And if not, why not?

I share Bier's unwillingness to offer a conclusion yet, but this is...well...

Disappointing certainly, from finding a treatment/cure perspective.

As a battle-scarred 25+ years veteran in the pharma industry I have become somewhat numb to the small hope-big hope-ecstasy-disappointment cycle of a drug's life. I know not to be too excited about Ph1 or Ph2 successes only to have them dashed in a Ph3 trial. These days the so-called Ph3 trials are what would be considered a pilot Ph2 trial under normal circumstances.

Well, it's back to the drawing board and to one of the other 750+ trials being run (clinicaltrials.gov - not all of them evaluating drugs, BTW). I can guarantee that at least 75% of those will have the same outcome as the remdesivir trial, but that's OK, and fairly optimistic. At the end all we need is one of them to succeed!

Call me crazy (I am) but I seriously believe we are dealing with more than one "coronavirus" in this country. Too many DIS-similar symptoms, degrees of infection, reactions, "drug trial" results, etc., for me to think all we are seeing/facing is a single "coronavirus"/COVID-19.

I'll go ahead and toot my own horn here. But this is why basic research, and funding basic research is so important. The more we know about the biology of a pathogen the more likely and more quickly/efficiently we'd be able to find/develop treatments.
