2A snowflakes couldn't even handle mandated mask wearing. Imagine what would happen if the US told them they were REQUIRED to serve in the military like Switzerland mandates.
Speaking of MAGA "snowflakes", after my brother and sister both chose to ignore the care of our 93 y/o mother for a year and dumped it all on me because they were too self-centered and selfish to get vaccinated, my sister is beginning to help. Yay!

She was going to be visiting my mother so I arranged for her to take her to her dentist. As many offices do now, a couple of days ago I received a text from the dentist's office confirming the visit and asking the now usual "have you had a fever or been exposed to anyone w/ Covid over the last 14 days, etc.", finishing with this:

"Please wear a mask
Thank you."

So, I copied the text and sent it to my sister who replied: "I ain’t wearing a mask at the dentist office."

To which I replied: "Glad they didn’t ask you to wear a shirt."

I have a bad feeling most Americans would feel the "Assholes" is/are the dentist office.
On the flip side, I have a sister who insists on wearing a mask in any doctor's office. Required or not.

So dumb. And this illustrates AGAIN, the absurdity of the NRA stance that "they're coming for our guns!"

I'd be fine with us treating guns the way they do in Switzerland. Most of their regulations are the kinds of sensible regulations that people here spin up as bans or taking guns away.

In Switzerland, all males serve in the military from 18-30 at least (most of which is part time). I'd be happy as a pig in shit if I knew that the vast majority of gun owners had proper and adequate training.

They require a permit to buy guns. That kind of suggestion is described as tyranical in the US.

They require a permit, that is difficult to obtain unless necessary, to carry in public, concealed or otherwise and for things like hunting, you can only carry it there and back.

And culturally, the rate of gun ownership in Switzerland is on the decline, while people in the US can't seem to stockpile enough of them.

These are exactly the types of changes many on this board have suggested might reduce murders and mass shootings.

Doctors offices are where all the sick people go. She may be rubbing tender wounds but she's not dumb at all. We'd all probably do better as a society if people slapped a mask on if they felt crappy but still had to be out and about.

I propose a compromise between the laws and military requirements of Switzerland and the US. Instead of requiring ALL men of a certain age to serve in the US military (to be trained in the handling and firing of a weapon and then given the opportunity to retain ownership of that weapon upon the serving of you debt to the nation), I propose that those who want to purchase firearms outside of the exact weapon offered for their service be required to serve in the military.

No need for all of these private classes or online tutorials on how not to kill yourself while servicing your gun. There is no one that 2nd Amendment supporters respect more as a trainer in the handling of weaponry than the US military. The military gets a regular, fresh supply of troops eager to show their patriotism and we as a society get citizens who are members we trust in helping to defend our communities should the US government behave in a tyrannical manner towards its citizens.

If you want the right to harbor weapons of war amongst us in our homes then I should feel certain you have been as well trained in military tactics and training to handle, care for and securely store your weapons as the gun-owning citizens of the obviously well respected country of Switzerland. If you guys are really going to be ready to defend your communities then you need to set down that bowl of ice cream and do your patriotic duty to protect everyone you care for.

Never got a serious answer to my question: does the Second Amendment allow me to carry a grenade launcher in public? If no, why not? How about a tactical nuclear weapon?

Which brings me to......
Questions I have often wondered and figure there is not a definitive answer.
Someone pulls a gun on you. You DON'T have a gun and immediately give them what they want. Odds you get shot?
VS.
Someone pulls a gun on you. You DO have a gun, don't immediately give them what they want, and start to reach for your gun. Odds you get shot?

I think concealed carry more than anything is using a gun as an attempt to stimulate the feeling, for those who otherwise don't know what it feels like, to have a large powerful weapon underneath their clothes.

I am not sure that a steel-hard 3-1/4” mega boner is going to help them feel “macho”.

I had a concealed license until recently when I didnt update it.

I never, ever, actually carry a gun on my person except for the pistol I carry when I hunt/fish/am otherwise out in the middle of nowhere in the woods. Even then.....its not concealed other than if I'm wearing a heavy jacket.

The reason I had one is so when I'm driving out in the woods, or to and from the woods, if I get pulled over I don't get arrested for having my pistol in my truck and not on the dash, or if the shotgun gets partially covered with a jacket or, what have you. For me it's not for protection of person....it's (was) protection from getting charged and arrested for something innocuous and of no ill intent. Not sure how im supposed to transport it...but whatever.

yea, that's the best answer I've heard for seeking a CCW license.

the last dood I asked why said something along the lines of, "cuz have you seen how many (non-white minorities) are in Denver nowadays?!" I cringed.

and years ago back in a time and place in which weed was still illegal, I dated a chick who was in the weed game. Between the lawlessness of it, and the fact she was a little female inevitably caught up in some potentially sketchy situations with potentially big scary doods, she felt safer with one on her. I suggested the safer thing would be to consider a career change. Long story short, we're not dating any more.
