Michigan has extended our SAH order until 05-15. But, the governor loosened up some on who is not “essential.” It’s a start.

Baby steps.

I haven't read the scope of the order/guidance, but that (generally) is the smart path.

Depends on what you mean by reopen.

More businesses and different types of businesses doing deliveries and curbside pickups, etc seems safe. Services provided remotely seems safe.

Thank God you can get a tee-time, Mich. My prayers have been answered.

It's difficult to even think about the scope that matters here. None of the measures are designed to prevent one more infection. It's about managing the load on the healthcare system. That means (a) minimizing the rate of infection, generally, and (b) taking aggressive measures to prevent the most vulnerable/difficult to treat from getting infected, specifically.

It's really really really fucking impossible to effectively do (a) without the means of knowing where nascent outbreaks are.

The question of which wickedly smart people still remains.
For first approximation is "those who interest is the opposite of US's welfare and leadership position in the world". Trump and Mitch themselves may be "marks". My prime suspect is someone whose name starts with a 'p' and rhymes with 'Utin'.

Why else would 55+ million people vote for a known low-information charlatan, one who picks fights with POWs and veterans, mocks the disabled etc. and despite all the warnings that this would be result!

Sure.

But my guess is that you're clinically insane.

Depends on what your definition is of safely, but yes testing is obviously important to know who has it at a given point in time (but just because you test negative at 9am today doesn't mean you couldn't test positive the next morning). Originally the entire point of the shutdown was to limit how quickly the virus spread so that hospitals didn't get overwhelmed. It wasn't necessarily to prevent people from getting covid19 (at some point). I stand on the side of this that is glad we are shutdown currently to keep as many people safe and save as many lives as possible....but we obviously can't stay shutdown forever. Vaccine would help, but I'm sure everyone is a little leary of getting some rushed out half assed vaccine also. Treatment helps. We just need time for all of that and I'm not sure some people are willing to wait that long.

Like gutter said the other day, everyone's situation is different. Business owners and in a hurry to open back up....yet I'm in no hurry because I can work from home and still earn a living, my wife can be home with the kids, and my 401k has years to recover (although it's already recouped most of the loss that occurred during the 1st quarter of 2020).....everyone's risk tolerance is a little different. I am doing almost nothing risky. But restaurant owners (for instance) are probably willing to take a little risk if it means getting patrons back in the chairs.

It's inevitable that whenever and however we open back up that cases will increase at least somewhat.

Not related...but I wonder how long we could sustain being shutdown before the food supply got so scarce that chaos breaks out?

well, is the food supply affected more by the shutdown in itself, but more by entire bacon processing plants coming down sick?

If you have, you would be foolish to take it back. He is insane.
The man is the President of the United States. Let that sink in.

It's even more scary that he had almost 12hrs to come up with an excuse and that's the best he and his team could do.

Stay well gutter. I know you don't always like me, but I'd be a nervous wreck if I were in Chicago during all this, with no great way to avoid people at times.

Elevators would make me so nervous. 😨

Thank you for your sentiment. I hope you and your family stay well too.
Funny that 1 minute after I read your post I checked my emails.
I received this from my building. They have sent the same thing on a weekly basis.

During this difficult time, we ask that all residents please remember to show respect to one another. If there is a time you feel you someone is too close to you, we ask that you refrain from argument and please take a few steps back; if you don’t want to be in the elevator with another person, please simply wait for another one, don’t request others to step off..............

My neighbor is a restaurant manager, so I've talked with him about the discussions within his restaurant about how and when to open back up. They have a large outdoor space and a large dining room, so they could accommodate lots of guests even with spacing. But they're concerned that with all the job losses, people aren't going to be willing to pay the usual restaurant prices for either food or booze, so they're still trying to figure out how to handle re-opening. Some of the lower end takeout restaurants may fare easier.

Just relating some of the questions that industry is likely dealing with that I hadn't really thought much about. Hope you and family continue to stay well.
