couldn’t her absence be a distraction too?

If she admitted her mistake and took responsibility and accepted the punishment, why keep adding consequences?

I would have maybe made half an effort to watch the stoner chick run, but didn’t then or don’t now have much interest in the event otherwise.

Trying for analogy here - it’s like the NCAA giving Darnell Jackson his 8 game ban, then KU telling him to sit out the rest of the season too.
Michael Phelps would have been added to the relay team.
You do realize he was suspended, right? And without all this backlash.

Yeah Michael Phelps was suspended, but that suspension didn’t come a month before the Olympics.

The bong pic didn’t either, I guess

you don’t think she woulda gotten all the attention and media questions? the other three relay members woulda been an afterthought, or if asked anything it likely woulda been about Richardson

maybe i’m wrong

She woulda gotten all the attention and media, yeah, cuz she was apparently the fastest runner on the team. Dunno why the focus can’t come back to that.

Or do we think even with the race to talk about, the media would be too consumed by her weed use to focus on that?

Since everyone else is apparently too consumed as well

Did the entire KU basketball narrative in 2006 focus on Darnell getting booster money to attend his grandma’s funeral?

The attention would be on that if she went to the Olympics and killed it. The attention isnt on that because she tested hot and now cant kill it at the olympics. Lets not make this more than it is.

i’m not quite sure where you’re trying to go with this

the attention is already all on her, because she smoked weed, got caught breaking the rules, AND us the fastest woman on the planet

none of that would change. the public and the media aren’t just going to forget about the first two facts

i don’t even think it would matter if she killed it or not

yeah. God Save The Rules.

and if having weed in your system is testing “hot,” that seems to contradict the lazy stoner stereotype.

heck based on the logic of some, maybe he’s proof that weed actually is a performance enhancer

Yeah.

I guess I didn’t have much interest in these events either way.

Maybe we just need a weed Olympics.

Isn’t such a competition hinted at with Willie Nelson’s cameo at the end of Beerfest?

I alluded to this before, weed is extremely beneficial for some people in ways we may/can never see nor compare to non-users. If I am an Olympic athlete and I suffer from anxiety, and my opponent also suffers from anxiety, and I smoke weed and it helps me with my anxiety, and my opponent does NOT smoke weed, do I not have/gain an "illegal" advantage over my opponent?

under the current rules you do

but you’re not going to convince me, or likely many other people, that weed is an ATHLETIC performance enhancer, which is how it’s currently classified by the IOC

there is obviously overwhelming evidence in the medical and mental health fields as to the potential benefits of cannabis and it’s compounds...but i doubt many, if any, of those health professionals would agree that it is a performance enhancer

you can try to spin it however you want

by your rationale, if drinking kava tea very night helps me sleep, and i perform better when i sleep well, then kava tea is a performance enhancer

you don't agree with the "don't hit that joint if you have a drug test coming soon" strategy?

It’s not that I disagree with that.

It’s that loosing one’s mother might be among the few times for which the weight of that situation might be heavier than the even the Olympics - or perhaps more simply, just the threat of whether you’ll be tested.

Do you fault her for trying to cope with her grief? Cuz I guess I don’t.

Do you think she did it to try and gain some otherwise impermissible competitive advantage? I guess I don’t either.

But if we really wanna put all our chips down for this one, let’s test the Olympic administrators too, and see how much they actually care about The Rules.
