Every time you have an exchange with Chat GPT, it’s the equivalent of pouring out half a litre of fresh water on the ground
that’s how much water it’s estimated to take, per interaction, to cool the AI supercomputers (same kind of issue as with cryptocurrency)

this is, perhaps, one of the best kinds of application of AI

How cool. Amazing.
The visualization of porphyras is thanks in large part to a 21-year-old computer student named Luke Farritor...

Midjourney is built off the backs of unwilling artists. It’s why authors are suing ChatGPT. I do see some good uses for Midjourney out there but generally it’s a dirty project to me.
The machines should be wiped and only willing artists should feed them.

I never thought about it at that level.
I just like Tool, and thought this is pretty cool.
Does that make ME a Tool? Or would it be my overall body of work?

I don’t think you’re a tool and I don’t think that someone who isn’t in the field really cares about that aspect. I get it. It is cool.

I agree.
pdub, you're to be commended.

But also I see these IBM commercials lauding AI from taking “repetitive tasks” from your employees and see through em.
It means saving money for the CEO and cutting more paying human jobs from your staff.
It’s not good.

There are a lot of good arguments against AI. I don't think this one - which would apply to any kind of automation as well - is a good one.
Where do you draw a line between good elimination of repetitive tasks and bad?

Not sure but there is a line and I would bet most people looking to make more money for themselves at the top only care about a different line.

Wow! If there is one person who is the face of AI, it's Sam Altman.
Samuel Harris Altman is an American entrepreneur and investor. He previously served as chief executive officer of OpenAI from 2020 to 2023 and president of Y Combinator from 2011 to 2019 Details are few, but this is a stunner. Altman was included in the people like Musk and Tim Cook etc., who met with the Biden Administration recently to give their input about the government trying to regulate AI, because, of course he was.
OpenAI says Sam Altman exits as CEO after board loses confidence
Eric Schmidt
@ericschmidt
Sam Altman...built a company from nothing to $90 Billion in value, and changed our collective world forever. I can't wait to see what he does next. I, and billions of people, will benefit from his future work- it's going to be simply incredible.
Kara Swisher
@karaswisher
Like everyone, I have no idea the reason the board had for firing
@sama this way and so suddenly, but the he was not “candid” comment and the speed (he was very publicly repping the company yesterday) indicates it’s more likely to be personal (you know what I mean) or $-related.
As I said, I am trying to find out and do not know what happened, but this is sudden and a major move and hit value hard (that is where it hurts in tech), so it has to be serious as the tolerance for behavior is high in Silicon Valley (see: Elon)
