So, according to Psych, someone uses a coupon, and the entire economy blows up?
I do want to know how an inflation hawk, who is ALSO a border hawk, expects food prices to do anything but explode if/when Trump (and Stephen Miller) deport 10mm brown people.
Say no to the Mean Girls, Fish. You're better than that.
I would argue that there is a middle ground to what you're proposing. Controlling our borders is not the same as keeping immigrants out. Many good and intelligent people are in favor of the former without proposing the latter. Unfortunately, Brandon and Company have thrown the gates wide open, and we are suffering the consequences. Corrections will have to be made in the short term so that the pendulum can swing back toward the middle in the long term.

I think the fact that we often tend to measure our economy by how the stocks are doing is a bigger issue.
It means so very little to most people.
It's an important factor for those of us who will be relying on our portfolio later in life. Not the ONLY factor, but an important one nonetheless.

You will not find me disagreeing that immigration reform is needed.
However, I do not think the answer - not economically, not health/safety-related, certainly not ethically/morally - is mass deportation and sinking massive resources into an armed, manned wall that cannot even come within laugh-distance range of working.
I am.
"The economy is soaring" is an eye roll for people who are living paycheck to paycheck. And even for much of those who aren't - i.e. the ever increasingly weakened middle class.
Using gains on stock as collateral for loans which the wealthiest of wealthy is where too much of that 'economy' is going.

There is ZERO actual evidence that supports this ignorant comment. You're just parroting right wing noise without using your own brain.

And I think you're now making the related argument on the other end of the spectrum (which is that the "economy" - even as the wealthy will use indices to define it - doesn't even really exist for the wealthiest of the wealthy, who do not even use such (taxable!) things as "salaries" and "bonuses" and "investment income" to pay for things).

Um . . .Who let Remain in Mexico expire? Have you seen what is happening in sanctuary cities like NYC and Chicago since then? Ask Gutter what it is like over there.

I am open to the possibility that you are correct, however, I am at a loss as to what alternatives exist.

The answer clearly isn’t one single thing. It’s a mix of carrot and stick. And I would argue that it’s highly inefficient to swing the stick at individual migrants - a literal game of Whac-a-Mole. Particularly because I do not believe that, as things presently sit, an increased risk of deportation will really have all that significant of a deterrent effect.

Good grief, you're a slave to your social media feed. Remain in Mexico was allowed to end because Title 42 did the same basic thing and now, Biden's new asylum policy that replaced Title 42 is even more harsh.

Not to mention unenforceable. By design, I might add.
“Okay, we’re going to turn you loose, but you have to promise that you’ll come back for your asylum hearing in 18 months.”
“Will you come looking for me?”
“No. Just pinky swear and we’ll call it good.”
Lulz.

man, that goalpost moved faster than Speedy Gonzalez
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Again, do some research instead of making ASSumptions. Actual evidence shows that the vast majority of asylum seekers show up for their court hearings.

I doubt that. But even if it were true, on the massive scale that they are coming across, it’s still a major problem. I am also loath to believe statistics generated by a government that is actively trying to make our borders irrelevant.
I see that the Mean Girls have chimed in, but I don’t care enough to read any of it.

There are non-governmental agencies who produce a number of legit studies of the numbers if you wanted to learn what's actually happening.
Producer Price Index* unexpectedly drops in October M/M, core inflation flatlines
The Producer Price Index dipped 0.5% in October, compared with the 0.1% increase expected and the 0.4% rise in September (revised from +0.5%). The month-over-month decline marks the largest decrease in final demand prices since April 2020.
On a year-over-year basis, the PPI rose 1.3%, significantly less than the 2.0% increase expected and the 2.2% Y/Y increase in September.
Core PPI, which excludes food and energy, was unchanged M/M vs. +0.3% expected and +0.2% prior (revised from +0.3%).
+2.4% Y/Y vs. +2.7% expected and +2.7% prior.
Prices for final demand goods dropped 1.4% in October, the first decline since falling 1.5% in May. The decline was largely driven by lower prices for energy, which fell 6.5%. Prices for final demand foods slipped 0.2%.
Prices for final demand services were unchanged in October after six straight months of advances. Within the index for final demand services, prices for airline passenger services rose 3.1%. The indexes for chemicals and allied products wholesaling; inpatient care; outpatient care (partial); and truck transportation of freight also rose.
On the flip side, margins for machinery and vehicle wholesaling declined 2.9%. Other indexes that declined in the month were apparel, footwear, and accessories retailing; portfolio management; traveler accommodation services; and health, beauty, and optical goods retailing.
