an even more frightening perspective
Re: an even more frightening perspective
“Here’s your reminder that pandemics, hurricanes, fires, and other natural disasters will be more frequent and only get worse because of climate change. This isn’t unique to 2020, it’s the new normal, and what scientists have been warning us about”
Re: an even more frightening perspective
i feel like i’ve been warning about it for 15-20 years on these fucking boards
sigh...
Re: an even more frightening perspective
Climate change makes pandemics worse? Honest question there.
I feel like over population/growing population and the nature of globalization making the world a much smaller place play a much larger role...as do the ever shrinking habitats for animals, as we encroach more on "their space" and have closer interactions with them directly/indirectly we are bound to see more disease jump from species to species (us being one of them).

Re: an even more frightening perspective
Deforestation is a big part of climate change, and also a big part of spreading viruses that were otherwise buried deep in the wilderness.
Re: an even more frightening perspective
many of the causes responsible for climate change (over population, slash and burn of old-growth forests, the global desire for cheaper goods at the tip of your finger, etc, etc, etc) not only increase the likelihood of encounters with novel viruses, but they also exacerbate the spread
this is one instance/topic, where i actually see a benefit from stepping back from all-out globalism
also, the migrations that have, and will continue to take place due to natural disasters (intensified by climate change) will only increase the chance of spread. displaced peoples will have to congregate together, particularly as we enter into the fall and winter months.
edit: cali could be in for an awful winter...displaced peoples because of the fires, dense population, flu, and covid, ugh...could get really ugly

do you even google, bro?

oh, look...

“Many of the root causes of climate change also increase the risk of pandemics...”
edit: and that was just one of the first hits, and doesn’t go into nearly enough detail, imo

See those were more insightful responses.

How much blame can be placed squarely on the fossil fuel industry?
They’ve known the damage they’re doing for decades now, but didn’t care about destroying the world cuz it was making them rich

What happens when a million people have to evacuate their homes? Do you think they relocate to single family dwellings and continue to be socially distant? Or do you think they stay in hotels, motels , with friends or loved ones or in temporary shelters?IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 12:01 pm Climate change makes pandemics worse? Where do people wbo may be riding out a positive COVID test get taken if they are injured in a disaster?
Do you think first responders to a hurricane are wearing PPE when they have to rescue someone from a flood?
Re: an even more frightening perspective
I love when you come in like a fucking smartass a day late and REPEAT what others have said already.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 6:26 amWhat happens when a million people have to evacuate their homes? I dont have time to read back through all this shit. Maybe you do but I dont. Just ignore it if it has already been covered.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 7:15 amI love when you come in like a fucking smartass a day late and REPEAT what others have said already.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 6:26 amWhat happens when a million people have to evacuate their homes? Re: an even more frightening perspective
You sure seem to have time to read back thru to find posts to argue with and/or post rude responses to....so i think you probably had time to read 1 or 2 posts further down to see Trad say exactly what you said (albeit in a much more respectful/thoughtful/less douchey way). This is something you do almost daily.
Try out that Switzerland thing. You don't have to respond to every post the people you don't like make.

Re: an even more frightening perspective
I start on the last page and scroll down until I read something that I want to reply to and I reply to it. If you go ahead and scroll beyond one of those to see if anyone else has responded to it yet or if you read everything to the end and then go back to reply to posts, good for you.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 2:07 pm You sure seem to have time to read back thru to find posts to argue with and/or post rude responses to....so i think you probably had time to read 1 or 2 posts further down to see Trad say exactly what you said (albeit in a much more respectful/thoughtful/less douchey way). Making an issue of such a trivial difference isn't necessary.
Re: an even more frightening perspective
Responding to posts by repeating what has already been said isn't necessary either.
Re: an even more frightening perspective
That’s neat and all, but........
