In all seriousness, he plays such good defense that he can't do much wrong in my eyes.

Shooting 3's and fade away jumpers with 2 minutes left while trying to hold a lead on the road is something I would put in the 'doing something wrong' category.

Defense is great an all, but allowing the other team to use 5 guys to guard 4 is a pretty big "wrong" in my eyes. A guard playing at this level unable to hit 25% of 3s while having all the time in the world to get set is tough to be ok with just because he plays such good defense.

Looking for a silver lining, is it possible that defenses sagging off Garrett could be an advantage if, say, he has the ball and is looking to create?

Garrett can drive, but can be awkward with the ball in those situations. I didn't think he kicked the ball out to scorers well enough last year, but that could be because there were no scorers outside.

LOL. No. Not really. They're sagging closer to all of our other players and/or sagging into the paint which is limiting our high % shots (Dok dunks)...that's the entire point of sagging off of him. It's just a bonus for them that occasionally he throws up a 3. He's got to stay patient. He should never shoot a 3 even if he's wide open if there's 15+ seconds on the shot clock. Ben Simmons has defenses do similar things to him and he still refuses to shoot 3s even when wide open. Stay patient. Move the ball. Play to your strengths. Don't let the defense trick you into thinking you're taking a good shot just because you're open. That's what they want because the %s on their side.

The fact that Garrett did not improve his jumpshot LAST summer is why I am not predicting a lineup this summer.

It takes more than 3 months to go from bad shooter to average shooter. Otherwise everyone in the NBA would shoot 40% from 3. Some guys, regardless of how hard they work, will never been good shooters...we aren't needing him to turn into Svi. Just don't be so bad that the other team doesn't even have to bother guarding you.

Well, if you're only working for 3 months of the off season you'll never get better at anything. What are you doing the other half of it?

My point was that college basketball players, as a rule of thumb, USED to make a noticible jump between freshman and sophomore years.
I don’t think that ‘rule of thumb’ is useful anymore.
And therefore my already useless prediction of the Fall lineup is even more useless to the point that I’m not even going to try.

They still do make that jump in most instances. Even Garrett made a pretty big jump between his 1st and 2nd years, just not in the shooting department...that perceived jump is exactly why Dotson is going to be a preseason AA.
This is an easy year for predicting a lineup imo. Wouldn't be shocked if we have 4 guys who start every game if they stay healthy (Dotson, ochai, sds, dok).

He's going to be 1 of the several players that has a chance at that final starting spot I'd assume. Right?

2. Kansas Jayhawks
Previous: 2
We thought Kansas' roster was set a month ago, then Bill Self went out and added some depth in point guard Dajuan Harris. He originally committed to Missouri State but reopened his recruitment, and when Kansas offered him in July, Harris decided to jump at the opportunity and reclassify into 2019. He's not expected to play a huge role this season, given the return of All-American candidate Devon Dotson at the point. Overall, Self will have seven players on his roster who didn't play a minute for the Jayhawks last season.
No changes from his last update except for putting Oregon at 17.

I’m intrigued by Moss.
He could come in and be our best shooter and play a yuge senior role.
(He could also come in and show that 9ppg at some other school don’t mean shit when you’re on a high major playing in every other team’s super bowl every game, but let’s be optimistic. It’s not like he’s from a west coast school)

I think we’re more than fine if he brings equal output to his last season at Iowa.

Agreed, KU doesn't need Moss to be a 15ppg guy. He needs to be a legit threat to knock down a three and he needs to not be a defensive dumpster fire.
