11 Days After Fuming About a Coughing Passenger, a Bus Driver Died From the Coronavirus

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/04/us/d ... virus.html

Jason Hargrove was furious.

A woman on his bus had just coughed four or five times, unguarded. He went on Facebook and vented his anger, cursing at times. In a video posted on March 21, he railed against the disrespect that he said passengers like her had shown workers like him who were trying to make Detroit run in the midst of a pandemic.

“We’re out here as public workers, doing our job, trying to make an honest living to take care of our families,” he said. “But for you to get on the bus, and stand on the bus, and cough several times without covering up your mouth, and you know that we’re in the middle of a pandemic, that lets me know that some folks don’t care.”

On Wednesday, a week and a half after recording the video outside his bus, Mr. Hargrove, a 50-year-old, married father of six, died from complications of Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, according to his union and city officials.
I heard he passed away yesterday and was very sad and angry to hear it.
We have 8,000 sad stories and counting.

I have a friend who posted about the UT kids who came back from Mexico. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/01/us/c ... hS7bjTJZsQ

One of her friends responded, "Prayers for those kids".
I respectfully responded, "Did you read the story? My hope is you would say prayers for those they have infected too".

Had another friend who posted pics of her and her boyfriend going to get a Polish Sausage.

This is one of the pics she posted -

I asked her if she had any clue what's ignorant in the photograph - and then said fuck it and deleted my comment.

People just don't fucking get it - and I promise it's really not that hard to get.
Eating Polish sausage is a good starting point.

Vega, I sewed my first mask tonight. If you still need one, perhaps I could mail one to you, if the UPS store is still open. All cloth, all cotton, from online instructions by a hospital CFO who demonstrated how to make one.

Actually, here's the CDC advice on making masks. They even show how to do a "no sew" one with a bandanna and rubber bands.

I'm experiencing the same Vega. Both my wife and I are about 100% certain we have the virus but the hospital will only test people with severe symptoms. We had only commuted between Lawrence and KC so it's definitely a local spread. The real outbreak numbers are so skewed at the moment it's ridiculous.
As of yesterday (two whole weeks) I’ve not been feeling constant pain in my lungs. I was prescribed an inhaler and that was my only vice to get me through it all.

Here’s a great perspective from a KC healthcare provider that got it a little worse than me.

Thanks TDub I truly hope no one else has to get this and that people are taking it seriously. You get to the point where you question your own mortality and no one should have to feel that way.

The scary part now is what’s recovery look like. Some experts are saying the lungs may have permanent reduced capacity or worse. I’m an optimist but these days it’s hard to be.

I have read that as well, hoping its not accurate. That part scares me as much as any of it, particular with small children in my household. Wishing you well, good luck on your recovery (and your wife as well).

NYC may temporarily bury coronavirus victims in parks: lawmaker

https://nypost.com/2020/04/06/nyc-to-be ... -Sh8xAjOpI

A leading New York City lawmaker said Monday that officials may be forced to temporarily begin burying the city’s coronavirus victims in local parks — as morgues and hospitals struggle to keep up with the mounting death toll, a city councilman said Monday.

“Soon we’ll start ‘temporary interment’,” said Councilman Mark Levine (D-Manhattan) wrote in a series of tweets. “This likely will be done by using a NYC park for burials (yes you read that right). Trenches will be dug for 10 caskets in a line.”

“It will be done in a dignified, orderly–and temporary–manner. But it will be tough for NYers to take,” Levine wrote, adding in another tweet, “The goal is to avoid scenes like those in Italy, where the military was forced to collect bodies from churches and even off the streets.”

He later clarified his tweets, saying this “is a contingency NYC is preparing for BUT if the death rate drops enough it will not be necessary.”

Johnson is a rarity among global leaders -- someone who is truly literate and truly capable of expressing himself in consistently rational, coherent, and engaging language. He is also self-centered asshole and a moral and ideological chameleon.

The former far outweighs the latter, in current circumstances, which means that he could be the most consequential British PM since Thatcher or even Churchill.

But first he has to live.
