Yep, I always wear a helmet, goggles, gloves, chest protector and never drink while riding. Save that until we are done and drink a few cheap can beers.

About a week since last update for Mrs. Newton

She's been there now for 10 days and has worked 6 12+ hour days. Lots of sick people in Detroit area. She was at a great hospital in Warren, Michigan (NE Detroit) but there is a greater need for her at a different hospital. So she is changing to a hospital in Novi, Michigan (NW Detroit) and it's a really nice hospital, newer building with newer equipment. She's excited for that, she will start there tomorrow and be there for remaining of time there. She said it's been about as expected. She has witnessed highs and she has witnessed the lowest of lows, but they are doing what they can every single day. The hospitals in Detroit do have a cool little tradition they are doing now. When a person has recovered from the virus, a bell gets rang on the speakers throughout the hospital, everyone who is able stops to applaud and cheer for a few minutes and then they go back to getting more people recovered. Doing that just gives them enough hope to keep going amid uncertain times.

The hope is that Detroit has hit its peak. It seems like the peak was about a week ago or so, but obviously things could change. She's thankful to all the nurses there who have been helpful to her, those who donated items to her (PPE) and those who are thinking of her. She's stayed completely healthy. Hasn't felt any sort of sickness or symptoms. Just tired after those long days of high-stress work. Has some marks on her face from those tight as fuck N-95 masks, but she's been doing OK with that. She gets mostly worn down because they are fully gowned up. Like a trashbag on them all day. So sweaty and fatigued at the end of every day. She is on her 2nd day off in a row today. Yesterday she was moving hotels to be closer to the hospital she is going to, and she picked one directly by the hospital she could almost walk if she wanted to. She'll get some much deserved rest today.

I'm hanging in there at home. I'm back at the office for a bit this week (Essential) and that's been a nice reprieve for me. 3 kids all 8 and under with some shittier weather last week was not fun. I was tired and fed up after the week. But they've been as good as they can be over this time. They've tried to help and they enjoy talking to her most every night. Got to go play golf on Sunday for a few hours while a relative watched the kids. So that was a nice break.

Mrs. Newton works 3 days in a row starting tomorrow. 12+ hour shifts. So she'll be tired come Friday night when she is done. But I'm thinking about making a trip up there this weekend as she is off Saturday and Sunday. Hope to give her a morale boost if possible. Still undecided at the moment, but we'll see. She's hoping that I will be able to make it, but all just depends on multiple factors (childcare, is she feeling ok, flight costs, etc)

I know Michigan now has the 5th most cases now as they were 3rd for a while, but they still need a lot of support their way. The black population is really struggling with this virus. With the poverty levels still being very low, most of them can't afford to treat underlying health conditions like diabetes, obesity and any heart issues, and they also have limited cell phone minutes to where they can't do tele-health type of thing that many others are doing.

Bless you and your family.

Don't mean to put you on the spot here, but wonder if she's following the protests to open up states? First of all, is she seeing any of this? Second, from a boots-on-the-ground perspective, does she think reopening soon is foolish?

Happy to hear that your wife is healthy. Tough gig being away from family for that long. Kudos to you for dealing with the kids with no help.

Um. Good question. She doesn't pay much attention to what's going on in the nation/world during this time. She's mostly focused on what she's doing while at work and then watches some other shows when she's off that takes her to a completely different place than the medical field.

I think she's somewhat ok with things opening up gradually. Her biggest hope is that people maintain some form of social distancing. Maybe not the full 6 feet, but don't crowd at the grocery store, maybe don't hug people as much, don't crowd in bars and restaurants and maybe wear masks more in public if you feel any sort of sickness. (She mentioned that the Asian countries like South Korea and Japan have always been mocked for this, but there's a reason they've done pretty well with this whole thing) She likes to reiterate that the masks are to protect those around you, they don't fully protect you. Things can still get in those masks from the outside, but things don't escape inside those masks easily.

Thanks 99. She misses us all like crazy. But when she is working, her mind is off of home for a bit. It's when she is at hotel to when she struggles a bit. But if she ever feels too down or whatnot, she calls and I always answer just so she can hear our voices and it puts her at ease again.

About 2 1/2 weeks to go. Not bad!

Thanks for the kind words Feral. We're doing as good as we can possibly do. She loves doing this but not looking for praise. Just feels like it is the right thing to do.

Best wishes Newton, to you and your family. Thanks again for all your sacrifices, especially Mrs Newton. I know this is your personal situation but please resist the urge to travel long distances. As tempting as it is to go see the Mrs please stay home both for your and your family's safety. Hopefully you'll have a lot more time in the comfort of your home, safe and healthy.

Yeah I’ve decided to stay home. Health and health of the family is far more important right now.

Thanks for the advice though.
