BBQ sauce on a burger is fine as long as there isn't any cheese on it. Cheese and barbecue should have an impenetrable wall between them.

Slathering a burger, or most things, with sauce is not the way to go.
BBQ sauce on the burger isn't dripping out of the bun. Sizzle up a jalapeno on the grill for a quick bit, cut it up, put it on that bbq burger.

BBQ sauce on a burger is always one of those things that sounds like a great idea but then fails in the execution. Maybe I've never had the right sauce.
I don't like ketchup, but I'll eat it. (and I like it with plain french fries)...but what I truly HATE, is ketchup on a bacon cheeseburger. Something about ketchup with bacon that I find revolting.
Easy mayo on a bacon cheeseburger is the best.

The thinnest almost invisible smear of mayo is ok.
Any more than that and it's awful.
Most places put about a 1" thick smear down, usually with an extra fat glob of it on one side...inevitably wherever you take the first bite.

Yeah, it shouldn’t be much.
Less for flavor, and more just for a layer of fat to seal the bun from the juices.

You can toast your buns and accomplish the same thing.

Man, toasting is so rad.
Who was the genius who came up with that one?
“Bread is so good you guys, how could we possibly make it better? Fuck it, let’s cook it again!”

Not a fan of ketchup, and I had a fraternity brother do this: Mayo plus ketchup . . .
on a ham and cheese sandwich.

Top 3 Italian ( can't count Olive Garden because it would take the whole list ) in the Portland, ME area:
1. Ribollita
2. Piccolo
3. Corner Room
Revisiting some of these.
1. Ribollita
2. Leeward - finalist for James Beard award
3. Corner Room
Best Lobster roll in all of Maine:
1. Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster
2. Shaw's Fish & Lobster Wharf - about an hour and a half or so away just North of the most beautiful lighthouse in Maine ( Pemaquid Point ) - great food, great view - can be a bit crowded during the height of tourist season
3. Lobster Shack at Two Lights ( long wait )
My go to Bagaduce Lunch unfortunately drops significantly as their last roll I got was slathered in mayo.
