I think Self may have the most free flowing, aggressive lineup he's ever had next year. Juando, Yes, Pettiford, Cuffe Jr, Rice, Dick, KJ, Clemence, Udeh. Not a lot of shooters there, but a shit ton of guys that can run.

I don't know how good the offense would be, especially with Harris and KJ starting at the other 2 spots, but CB-GD-JW on the wings would give opposing teams some trouble on defense.

Aaron Miles was the same way and he's one of the best distributing PG's in the history of the league.
It is, to me at least, focusing on the negatives when it's presented as needing to shoot 4+ attempts per game from 3 for his shooting numbers to not be "hollow".
No, that is just you misinterpreting what jfish posted, but I will let him take care of that.

Probably depends on who the one coming back is. I think Braun is much harder to replace.
Agree with that.

If you do a Harris/Guard/Wilson/Adams/5 starting lineup, it's in desperate need of shooters and spacing.
I think the ideal starting lineup if nobody returns that declares is Harris, Rice, Dick, Adams and Clemence. Yes, Udeh, Cuffe Jr and Pettiford off the bench.
I agree.
But who is the shooter of that bunch?
Dick? I guess you cross your fingers and hope Clemence hones that three point shot.

And he was open a lot.
My question is, without DMac drawing doubles and Ochai getting shadowed -- will the opposing defenses not have to cheat off him anymore -- and then can he put up similar percentages with more attention?
Fair.

And conversely, with defenses not having to help off him, could that actually be a benefit to his ability to distribute the ball by getting into the lane to create for others, rather than feel like he "needs" to shoot to prevent them from helping off and ignoring him on the perimeter?

Maybe it could actually be viewed as a positive?

My worthless guess is that his attempts per game go up slightly and his 3pt % stays the same due to continuing to work hard on his shot in the offseason. Dude didn't earn this much praise from Self without being a hardworking team 1st asset. It wasn't a fluke that multiple times in the tournament Self praised him for being a difference maker in our comebacks. Miami and UNC.
We know he's a hardworking team 1st guy. No one doubts this.

If Braun and Jalen come back, I have zero concerns at all with Harris's role and our team's success.
If neither come back, I just wonder where the offense will come from.
Self will obviously figure it out - but then you gotta hope Dick is Xavier Henry good - and Rice Wayne Selden freshman year good or better.

I do think Harris will be better at driving the lane and finishing - he has shown he has that skillse.

And Self has always preferred defense 1st teams. Easier for defense to travel than it is for outside shooting. Everyone has bad shooting nights, but you can typically overcome those nights easier with elite defensive teams.

But, obviously, it today's game you need some scoring punch too. Hopefully we have the best of both worlds next year.

If that is the personnel, I think my preference is for Yes to shoot from the perimeter like he's shown and play 2 small guards.

Dick is the best freshman shooter we've had come in since like McLemore or maybe even beyond that (Boschee?).

edit: I am going back to at least Boschee. Dick shot 48% in both his junior and senior seasons at Sunrise where they only play against the best HS teams in the country. That is insane and says way more for me than the Brannen and Tyrel's of the world.

Ben shot 42% from 3.
Same with Xavier.
I'd be all over Dick if he does that.

If CB and JW leave, I want Self to bring in that Iowa State guard (I've got no idea if we even have interest) to play next to Harris. Fill in the rest with Rice, Dick, and whoever wins out at the 5 -- but I wouldn't count out the freshman.

I don't know if that team gets a 1 seed, but they'd be fun.

I can't keep up with the different scales of evaluating players.

DH has hollow shooting %s. Offensive liability.

But Yes has "shown" he can hit from the outside and has a significantly worse % than DH, and stats from Drake aren't "hollow".

And Enaruna can "knock down a 3".

Yeah I'd take Hunter in a heartbeat. He would automatically be our best guard on offense and then you add on that he's one of the best perimeter defenders in the league. He and Juan together, yikes.

Hunter isn't any better a shooter than Yes but is a better scorer.
I would take him if either of Braun or Wilson leave though.
