The timing of the announcement seems to be intended to ensure that the initial stock market shock hits on Biden’s watch.

A MICH-approved strategy, to be sure.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

A whole hell of a lot of people who lustily cheered every time Trump dodged consequences for his actions are going to wonder why the hell they will suffer consequences for theirs (and his).

all of us will suffer. I dont use illegal labor but, amazingly enough, I do use lumber and building supplies. It's gonna be a mess. I guess I'll buy everything I can get my hands on for the next couple jobs before the end of the year.

BUD and I were thinking about taking a trip to Mexico in February/March but are honestly a bit wary from the blowback of that fuckwad of a president completely scorching whatever relationship we had with our Southern neighbor.

so if you're keeping track so far It appears within the first year (if not sooner) we are being promised

1. Massive foreign tariffs (crippling the economy)
2. Mass deportation (crippling the economy)
3. Elimination of all government funding Healthcare (terrible for the economy long term)
4. Significant weakening of our military via purging experienced generals and ejecting of upwards of 20k trained troops (potentially much more if the rumors of ejecting female members holds any weight).
5. Significantly limiting access to pre and post birth care (terrible for the economy long term and short term)
6. Elimination of Department of education (terrible for the economy via brain drain).

who.......how...what? Who voted for this...none of this is good.....none of this is even America first.....

I've always been a "we'll make it through, we are resilient" type....but I am growing increasingly concerned about the future.

Best case....nothing in our country happens as all of our time and money is spent fighting and hanging up these proposals in lengthy legal battles.

So best case, we waste tremendous time and resources and make 0 progress in any direction.

i predict that practically none of your doomsday scenarios actually happen.

it's all talk. he's all talk. internet deviants and malcontents are all talk.

maybe put the politics down for awhile and try to have a nice holiday.

So Trump's own announcement about his own tariffs is ... talk?

You should hope that is true. Otherwise, we're talking $9 Crunchwraps.

dt threatening mexico with tarriffs has little to do with tarriffs. and lots to do with mexico keeping their drugs and their gang members on their side of the river.

Cool story. Most fentanyl is brought over the border by US citizens.

"Prosecutors and defense lawyers say Haley's story is typical; the vast majority of illicit fentanyl — close to 90% — is seized at official border crossings. Immigration authorities say nearly all of that is smuggled by people who are legally authorized to cross the border, and more than half by U.S. citizens like Haley. Virtually none is seized from migrants seeking asylum."

There's a reading of the tariff announcement - particularly when considered in the light of, well, this* - that suggests that Trump knows he can't fulfill even 1% of his deportation promises.

We're going to engage in a trade war with three of our most important trade partners - two of which are also critical military allies/relationships - all because our biggest strongest boy is going to punish them for not having a magical NO MORE FENTANYL button ready for the pressing.

Which, to be clear - he doesn't give one FUCK about anyway. He does NOT care at all for all the families ruined by addiction and related crime. He cares more about a chip he duffed fifteen years ago and can't even remember anymore, than he does about the totality of wreckage fentanyl has imposed on American families.

What does it say about the person you voted for, that three weeks later you seem to be hoping that he doesn't fulfill his campaign promises?

Exactly what I was going to say. I suppose we don’t call them rubes for nothing. This is a case of The Wall That Mexico Paid For Part Dos. The rubes are not aware that he didn’t do it nor do they care.
