The point is even in a prison. Literally the most controlled environment man provides, bad people still find ways to do bad things. Inmates killing other inmates still happens all the time. Once again violence is the root issue

Even if we agree that at some level, evil is inevitable, wouldn’t it be LESS BAD if that evil was expressed with…nearly anything as accessible as assault rifles, that isn’t assault rifles?

I don’t think you’re going to see the would-be mass murderers becoming, like, expert chemists or some shit. “If you ban assault rifles, the killers will turn to dirty nukes,” is just a very silly thing to say.

If some lunatic is going to attack your* kids’ school, wouldn’t you rather that lunatic have a handgun or knife? Pretty much anything but an assault rifle?

Gun bans have happened many times in many places throughout the world. Guns are banned in many places here in the US, and yes many people do not want the public to have access to any guns.

Assault rifles (in many iterations) were banned. Recently! And democracy was not itself torn asunder (in fact, the trendline on the number of people shot/killed in mass shootings shot upward right when the ban expired by its terms; coincidence, I'm sure).
