As usual, you're operating under badly-outdated generalizations (which themselves were based on assumptions that have since been proven invalid).

House GOP lawmakers offered affirmation Wednesday that a partial government shutdown could be in the offing in just 16 days largely over the immigration issue.
If I were just to read these two statements one after the other, the logical conclusion would be; the Rubepublicans must be pressing for more immigrants to be let into this country to ease our critical labor shortage.

I can’t believe that no Democrat has offered an amendment mandating jail time of no less than 6 months for anyone found hiring undocumented workers. Call the Republican bluff.

Add in a $100,000 fine per illegal immigrant hired and use that money to help fund increased border security.

That/those D/Ds wouldn't stand a chance at re-election if they did so. Rs the only ones who own businesses that depend on undocumented workers?

Who said anything about Ds not hiring undocumented workers? The Republicans are the ones running around making sure that “border security” is front and center. Call the bluff. Knowing full well that this is another issue where the chase is only thing that matters, not catching the car, as far as the dog is concerned.

If the Republicans are serious about solving the issue this where they would start. I really like twocoach’s $100,000 per offense fine idea.

It doesn’t have to come from the Dems. Anyone who is represented by a Republican- please call your Rep and ask them to put this in the bill!

I don't feel it should be front and center but I do feel it should be a hell of a lot closer to the front and center than it currently is.
So much so that it's yet another strike I have against the Biden Administration. Very well could be a major determining factor on whether or not he or Donny gets elected.

I wonder how many of Faux News listening sheeple realize that one could enter the country legally (f@&$ The Wall) and work illegally? “Border Security” is a trigger word. No more, no less. I’m disappointed that Gutter fell into this trap.

I think all border hawks fall into one of two groups.

Those who KNOW that there is no realistic way to physically stop illegal immigration (but pretend otherwise for effect), and...those who don't.

Trap or not, on January 5th 2024 border security is a major concern in this country.
Forget about me. I'm just one schmuck out of over 300 millions schmucks living in this country.
My single vote doesn't matter.

You're making some incorrect assumptions about the intent of my post. I would rather additional border funding (which I agree with Republicans is needed) be paid for by the scumbag companies breaking our laws and benefitting from illegal workers instead of by cutting social programs that benefit American citizens. It has nothing to do with D vs. R states.

or. we could redirect a portion(say half) of what uncle is giving away to fund wars all over the world.

they would still get a ton of our money.

and we could secure our border at the same time.

There is no way to stop it but there are ways to better process and track them for sure. More funding is needed on additional workers and facilities set up at more designated areas. More messaging is needed to people south of the border so that they better understand the processes and likelihood of being accepted in or deported. And more punishment is needed of employers who hire illegals.

Let me ask this, what would it look like for you to feel that "the border is secure"? What do you think that entails specifically? Not how do we do it but WHAT does "secured" mean to you? Let's clearly define your goal so we can see if it is attainable.

We need more "funding" for everything. That's the problem.

A big, beautiful wall.

We once had a President who was a genius at building things. He knew more about building hthings than anyone else in the world.

He even had the genius level plan for getting a separate, sovereign nation to somehow FUND this project.

If only he had 4 more years........
