An idiot from 2014 confusing weather with climate.

Thanks for the insightful post! Anything to stick it to the "other side". Keep fighting the good fight brother!

Colorado’s Cameron Peak fire set to be the largest in state history, a record that was set...just a couple months ago

i have my suspicions, but i’m curious about why california and colorado saw record fires this year

just about every state in the west had fire, but those two seemed to have an exacerbated situation

What’s your suspicions?

I think it’s a simple combo of warm dry drought conditions, and y’all tourists being entitled assholes about having a fire on their pandemic camping trip.

After the fire bans here, the local police blotter in the paper had lots of stories of the sheriff going out to campsites to politely ask campers to put out their fires, and campers getting all BUT MAH RIGHTS about it.

I dunno why the sheriff didn’t just crack down and write more citations.

water use and the short-sighted “management” strategy of putting out every fire

relative to other western states, cali and colorado have heavy population loads, which brings the desire for green lawns, golf courses, and landscaping with plants that require more water than those that evolved in those ecosystems. add to that the “concrete jungle” effect. lowered water tables and decreased soil moisture result.

most coniferous species actually require fire, some require incredibly hot fire, in order to germinate/reproduce. add to that the build-up of fuel that results from no fires. our obsession with putting out every forest fire isn’t at all healthy for those ecosystems.

raking the forest floor won’t cut it

Well then we are fucked because that will never happen. Even if we did it in our country (which we won't) half the world wouldn't follow suit.
