This is correct now but won't be in the future.
it all sounds so fucking sterile and horrible. Like the worst of the futuristic settings in movies.

We're on a sports bored -- I think sports stars will become less of a big deal when worlds can be created where you are the sports star and it feels real.
Us olds will watch our real sports and our grandkids will be all, lolz, who are those geezers.
this is already happening with gamers being payed millions so that others can watch them play a goddamn video game

someone referenced Ready Player 1 the other day…not entirely dissimilar is the global drone racing circuit

Us olds will explain to our grandkids that we had to type shit into these handheld tablet deals to look things up. Then they'll access the data, get some content about those old times, and go, man, lolz, who are those geezers.
Musk is already headed there with Neuralink

About 6 years back I dated a chick with a kid (do not recommend). He had an xbox and he'd get me to play here and there. I'd be like, do you want to play? Answer was always, "No, I'd rather watch you play." And, then his favorite YouTube videos were watching other people play video games.

I don't understand it. I would fight my friends to the death for the Nintendo controller when I was a kid.

Man

growing up, having to watch someone else play a video game was such a pet peeve of mine.

But now, go figure it’s like a bajillion dollar industry.

i don’t get it either

when the first couple of GTA games came out, a group of us would get together with a set of rules for how long someone could play before giving up the controller

A little perspective, though, the gaming industry overall is worth close to $200 Billion, and E-Sports is about $3 Billion.

I'm hopeful but not expecting that this, along with retirees, is where this whole thing really becomes popular. I think it's about 10-15 years too soon for that

Yeah, I'm just thinking out loud. No idea what could happen.

edit: I will say that if I was in the unfortunate position of rotting away in a nursing home, the idea of a metaverse starts to become more intriguing.

Q doesn’t have much concern for marginalized folk.

But the idea of making life more enjoyable for disabled or elderly prob makes others feel all warm and fuzzy.

I still imagine the vast majority of users will be healthy able-bodied types who would rather get fat and play pretend ball in a VR world than just go to the gym and get their asses in shape.

Bro, you're arguing against no one. No one here is remotely arguing that the existence of metaverse(s) will be 100% meritorious. It's just kind of like Thanos, inevitable. And I'm mostly intrigued for my and MICH's 401k's/IRA's.

i’d only agree that it’s on the inevitability level that fb is

there is still a notable swath of society that wants nothing to do with it…or is prevented from the option due to financial, logistical, or geographic/governmental restrictions

edit: and along those same lines, it seems likely that there’ll be a decent number that give it a go only to later realize that the real thing is better
