LOL. It's wild. I guess it's the cost of being great?
Bad calls happen every game. In every sport. At every level.

Their players and coaches are blaming the refs. Not the fact they missed kicks, failed miserably on a 4th and 10 and got sacked 8 TIMES.
DeMeco Ryans on the officiating: "We knew going into this game, man, that it was 'Us vs. Everybody' and when I say everybody — it's everybody."
CJ Stroud: “I’m not gonna go back and forth on what I thought was a call when it wasn’t a call. It’s one of those things you kind of notice before you walk in that arena. I can’t argue with the ref, and at the same time, play football.”
I don’t disagree he flopped there.
But nothing was called, which is correct.
So…what is the issue?

Issue #1: It’s the Chiefs
Issue #2: It’s Mahomes
Issue#3: The Chiefs won

The issue is that people are fucking whiners when they don't get the results they wanted. Show me one article like that or anyone calling for the NFL to do something after the myriad of flops that Josh Allen performs every season.

Winners make winning plays and take accountability when the lose.
Losers making losing plays and blame others when they lose.
Houston as a team yesterday made a lot of losing plays then came out and showed their asses as a losing organization from top to bottom. This was clearly a conversation in their building leading up to the game. That's preparation for losing, not preparation for winning.

There is an angle on the second one where he forearms Mahomes. He was sliding.
It's not even that he was sliding as I don't think he got called for a late hit. It's just that two players made contact with his head. That should always be a penalty. Did it result mostly because they aimed for where his body would have been if he didn't drop to a quick slide? Yes. Is it probably a sign that there was no intent to hit his head? Yes. Does any of that matter? No.
Refs don't have to determine intent any more like they used to be asked to do. Now, if they hit the opponent in the helmet, it is usually called a personal foul. Kinda like the flagrant 1 foul in hoops. Once you see the contact above the neck, you can expect them to call it even if it was unintentional.
Buncha whiners out there. Social media has pointed a magnifying glass on people's pettiness and fan goggles.

Yes, if you watch the penalty in question, the unnecessary roughness, at least one of the Texans ( you could argue both ) lower their helmets and lead the tackle with them. Mahomes gets low enough to where he just gets a bit of the first players ( the dude who DEFINITELY led with his helmet ) helmet. But make no mistake, there's helmet to helmet contact there.

Seeing all the postgame interviews with Texans players all saying that they talked about having to beat the refs is crazy. They prepared excuses for losing instead of preparing to win.
You'd think that if the refs propensity to call a game in favor of the Chiefs was a focus of their preparations that they wouldn't be inclined to commit a penalty on the opening kickoff for throwing their helmet across the field. Just zero accountability whatsoever. Such a loser mentality.

The Texans would not have won no matter what and there were questionable calls on both sides. The Texans held on practically every snap egregiously.

I assume someone could find holding on almost every NFL snap.
It was just a stark difference between watching the interviews with the two teams that lost yesterday. The Lions stood up there and took it on their own shoulders while the Texans all whined about the refs.
I'd bet one of those teams will probably achieve more while the other will regress next season and my money is on the team that takes ownership getting better. Another example is that Cincy has whined about the refs and then missed the last 2 postseasons while the Bills have taken responsibility for tough losses and continued to stay in the mix.

Regular season record wise, I respectfully disagree.
I don't think the Texans go 9-8 or worse and I don't think the Lions go 16-1 or 17-0.
That being said.....
Do I think the Lions will win a playoff game? (which would be an improvement from this season) Probably.

Chiefs haters everywhere. But pretending Mahomes isn't an all time great is pathetic. Having spent my life with flyover officiating, it is pretty rich to say the Chiefs are pampered. And twocoach, agree completely. Texans really need to reflect a little. Their special teams blew the game by themselves

All this bullshit about Mahomes getting flags really seems to have only started this year, too. People had a cow over his run in Carolina, where he juked a defender 2 yards from the sideline, and whined that he "cheats" by running near the sideline to scare defenders out of hitting him. The thing is, he's got absolutely lit up a few times on the sidelines without a flag. He did draw one flag when he was probably still in bounds on an NBC game that led to Cris Collinsworth crying for a half hour. Otherwise, he's taken some hits that were definitely penalty-worthy without getting the call. Actually, look at the 2022 game at Houston. Texans went low and late on him a few times without getting a flag.
The numbers say he doesn't get special treatment, though. Of 46 active QBs, he's right in the middle, at 21, in roughing the passer calls per 100 pass attempts. In his career, Mahomes is at 0.63 per 100 passes. For comparison, Burrow, Rodgers, Stafford, and Jackson are all between 0.5 and 0.53. The Chiefs awful O-Line for at least a lot of the last 3 years accounts for that difference. Meanwhile, Josh Allen is 3rd at 0.94/100 attempts, which is 50% more than Mahomes.
Mahomes has played in the most prime time, big games and therefore the couple of examples of him getting soft calls draws the most attention and generates bullshit controversy online. But like every QB, he's taken a lot of hits that could have been called, and he doesn't get significantly more calls than anyone else - and a whole lot less than Allen. Other guys getting more than Mahomes: Garoppolo (despite the 49ers fans' whining), Goff, Watson, Cousins, Wilson.

I ardently eschew* this thread, but thought you might find this interesting. It has a plethora of messages, imo.

I do think that officiating needs to be held accountable publicly - like refs/crews will get scores and those scores can be public - and we can see how specific plays were called incorrectly ( and correctly ).
While the judges of these scores would of course be affiliated with the NFL I do think it'd do a bit to mitigate concerns after a game.
