Prep who is headed to Kansas and ranks No. 21 overall was as engaged as anybody in the building. When his coaches were talking, he was locked in and immediately picked up everything they were putting down. He pulled teammates aside to help explain things, he was vocal on the floor and he played pretty well too. Jackson has a little extra bounce in his step that few of the other ball handlers have and that pop really lets him get into the lane and make things happen. During shooting drills, his shot looks like it is trending towards much improved. This kid looks like a guy that Bill Self is going to love."

The 6-foot-3 guard is a player who the KU coaching staff fell in love with last summer. Norm Roberts watched Jackson play in person on the grass roots circuit and led the recruitment for the four star guard. KU got the guard on campus for a visit in late September and he announced his commitment to KU just a few weeks later. In the end, Jackson picked KU over 27 other offers from the likes of Texas, Michigan, Ohio State and UCLA to name a few.
This is not exactly giving me the warm and fuzzies.
i saw another write-up that was gushing about Elmarko’s D, and his ability to effectively switch and guard bigger players

that, i like quite a bit (as i’m sure Self does as well)

We just got rid of a guy who fit the same general description.

I don’t want to see lineups where there are three guys who can shoot outside of floaters and lane drives.

we just got rid of a couple guys who fit that general description, actually.

But one was a top 150 guy, one was a mid-major transfer, and both were undersized. Elmarko is a bigger, longer, top 25 burger kid. That in itself is a lot more to like.

And while nothing is guaranteed, that stuff suggests he's more likely to contribute at an elite D1 program.

or, yea, maybe Self really just cannot get over his man crush on guards who can't shoot.

I mean, do they have to be mutually exclusive?

But yea, I think it’s clear Self’s strategy is, recruit defensive types and hope they can learn to score, much more so than recruit scorers and hope they can learn to defend.

But hey, as a whole, I guess it’s mostly worked out

I heard Self say some years ago and don't know if he's changed his mind, that he likes to recruit guys who can score. He said you can teach them to guard but it's hard to teach a guy to score who isn't already a natural scorer.

obviously they don’t have to be mutually exclusive, but elite D comes from internal motivation coupled with athleticism

you can teach and re-craft shot mechanics, but kids either want to play D or they don’t…we’ve had plenty of great shooters here that were lacking quite a bit on the defensive end, and not because they lacked the athleticism to excel on that side of the ball

good to know! Or prob more accurately, to be reminded.

now if you'll excuse me, I have to give TDub a ride to the dry cleaner so he can pick up his plaid sport coat. Dude must have spilled his Diet Coke on it again, doggonit.

I also like Roy, but Bill is a better coach.

Caleb Love transferring.

Don't think Bill will. Going 9-25, 8-18, 3-15, 8-20, 9-20 in a game aint it. Regardless if it's a high percentage, taking all those shots isn't going to work here.

I like the idea of bringing in a proven scoring guard.

But I do not like implementing that idea by bringing in a guy who hasn't cracked 40% from the floor in three heavy-minutes seasons.

My initial reaction is that he's not so different from Remy as a player, but even with higher volume, Remy was more efficient.

KU went after Love pretty hard before he committed to UNC. UNC allowed him to play a style that won't fly at KU...not unlike what Yesufu was allowed to do at Drake compared to KU. Still, I expect Bill and staff to kick the tires on Love just to see if there's something that could be beneficial to both parties.
