It didn’t have to be Elmarko, but it prob did/does have to be some “small guard”/on-ball lead guard PG initiate the offense type, particularly in half court and late clock.
LOL. God you repeat yourself a lot.
Mayo, Griffen, Storr....all have shown to be as good, or better, ball handling, and scoring, than Elmarko.
Make up your mind. Is Elmarko the lead guard needed to "initiate the offense" or is he the "slasher"? Because those aren't the same. DH can initiate the offense. Griffen Storr and Mayo can be late clock scorers (as can the 7'2 3x AA center, but apparently he's only allowed to shoot with 10+ seconds on the shot clock in your system of basketball you've dreamed up.
If you're wanting a late shot clock scorer at guard, no fucking clue why you'd want Elmarko, who is offensively limited. Both ballhandling wise. And shooting/scoring wise. His best shot, the pull up mid range jumper, is one of the statistically worst shots a player can take. But, I know you don't like stats.
He can jump high though. Thats cool. And I know that excites you. Eye test.
Elmarko shot 40.6% from the field. Thats not very good for a guy who only shot when he was wide open last year. If you discount DH for it, then be consistent.
Mayo Storr Griffen. All 3 are better than Elmarko. Maybe Elmarko will be better than them in the next few years, but he wasn't prior to the injury.

Your obsession with "small guard" shot chuckers is weird. And fyi, that's not Elmarko. You'd know that if paid attention during games.
Kemba Walker must be your favorite player of all time.

Leading scorers of recent national title winners
2024. UConn. Tristen Newton. 6'5.
2023. UConn. Adama Sonogo. 6'9.
2022. Kansas. Ochai Agbaji. 6'5.
2021. Baylor. Jared Butler. 6'3.
2020. N/A
2019. Virginia. Kyle Guy. 6'2.
2018. Villanova. Jalen Brusnon. 6'3.
2017. UNC. Justin Jackson. 6'7.
2016. Villanova. Josh Hart. 6'5
2015. Duke. Jahlil Okafor. 6'11.
2014. UConn. Shabazz Napier. 6'1.
So of the last 10 national title winners, there is a mix of all positions being the leading scorers. And truthfully, the only 2 on that list, that are what you're describing are really only Jalen Brunson and Shabazz Napier.
It doesn't have to be a small guard. It can be any size player. It's more important to have a good team with good players.
Also of note, only 2 of those players have been good in the pros. So remember, this is college basketball.

LOL
At will huh?
Elmarko averaged 4.3pts. The only thing he did "at will" was turn it over at an alarming rate.
He shot below 41% FG. Less than 49% from 2. Abysmal from 3.
He made 40 entire 2pt FGs in 34 entire games. He did not get into the paint at will. You're making things up again.
i seem to recall him being quite the handsy foul machine as well
Yes. 3.2 turnovers per 40. 4.5 fouls per 40.
All that said, I am still pretty optimistic about Elmarko.
But it wasn't going to magically occur in 1 off season of 5 months.
And that "potential" Ousdahl is referring to about Elmarko is not solely exclusive to him, it didn't "have" to be him. Even if DH is near his ceiling, we brought in Coit Moore Griffen Mayo Storr and Passmore. Who all have the "potential" to be whatever Elmarko could have been. Several of them have already proven to be better than Elmarko. Griffen averaged double digits and started on a final four team last year.
i’m optimistic too (which is why i had held my nose and agreed with randy). i’ve been on team Elmarko from the get-go, despite his shortcomings, so i’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t end up having a productive career. he’s seemingly had all the opportunity in the world to be successful

Hopefully a year of truly learning the game, on the bench and in the film room, will pay off big for him next year.

Yes. You also made it a point to say he wasn’t a shoe in for Kansas.
Cute little non-commitment racket you have going there!

https://www.si.com/college/kansas/baske ... %20Atlanta.
"Four-star small forward Samis Calderon, the No. 67-ranked player in the Class of 2025, according to 247 Sports, simultaneously announced his commitment to and signing with Kansas on Wednesday.
Calderon, originally from Brazil, has been playing for Cold Hearts, an Overtime Elite squad based out of Atlanta.
At 6-foot-8, with a 7-foot-3 wingspan and a wiry-strong 200-pound frame, Calderon is a long and bouncy athlete (38-inch vertical) who has exceptional open-court speed.
Calderon excels in transition, where his physical attributes stand out, but he also has shown early promise as a perimeter shooter."

Peterson is crushing it this year and looks like he will be an excellent player right out of the gate for KU next season.

Self said something along the lines of he qas the most ready, biggest commitment Kansas has received in "decades".
