The arguments from me?
Similar to extending the NFL season.
Or NBA season.

Abscence makes the heart grow fonder.

Aren’t college hoops players already spending the entire summer in the gym anyway, like lifting and training and…playing hoops?

This seems to just mix up the competition a little, as opposed to just scrimmaging against the walk-ons every day.

What would be cool would be a 2 week summer tourney every 4 years of the best 16 teams of the previous 4 years based on cumulative AP end of year rank or NET score etc.

Call it the Summer 16.

I just wouldn’t want CBB every summer.

high level youth athletics has no off season. hockey. soccer. volleyball. baseball. all mostly year round sports now. we are grinding the young people up and spitting them out. all so the adults can make money.

that would only work if players still stayed at one school for most of their careers and didn't jump ship at the first sign of distress.

Neato. But, irrelevant to this conversation.

I think it would be rad for college basketball to take a page from soccer’s playbook and have something going sort of in parallel.

Like a summer champions league tournament, where the winners of the Power 5 plus the next three NET leagues do an 8 team, best-of-three tournament or something, in July/August.

personally I hate that. I get the appeal for some but....Its not for me. Its too much, too much to keep track off, and dilutes the main championship.

Summer is for other things. I love college basketball...it is by far my favorite. But...we need a break from it. Summer is for mowing and farming and rodeos and BBQs and whatever else ya wanna do. The only bball I wanna be concerned with in the summer is happening at the gravel pad in front of the shop.

Eh. I think college basketball leaves quite a lot on the table by where it sits in on the calendar. I think there’s a huge opportunity to use the July/August dead zone on the sports calendar.

I would have no interest in semi pro collegiate like athletics in the summertime.

I guess, to me, I feel like there’s not enough college basketball. November-January is swallowed by football. Just feels like as soon as college basketball gets good, it goes away.

for me ive got too much other stuff to do in the summers...I cant sit inside to watch TV. or...feel guilty that I'm not inside watching bball.

This is partly why I never really got into baseball too except when I played it

And yet here you are on a college athletics off-season board. Hypocrisy only stings if you let it rule your life.

nonetheless. I would have no interest in semi pro collegiate like athletics in the summertime. I am a big proponent of the offseason. the athletes need a break. their families need a break. breaks are good.

Well kinda but it would be more program strength and you could be unfortunate to be a top 16 team and just have a bad squad that summer.

But yea I agree with your original statement at its core.

It never used to for me.
Chiefs was always a far second for me.
Now it’s about even.

And I enjoy the summer being an offseason for all sports ( except for the World Cup unless it’s randomly played in a shit hole desert ).

Then everyone would complain about the guys that got injured in the summer and couldn't play in the fall.
