the problem, lobs, is that you don’t agree with what the majority of the public views as “the practical world”
the majority of the public believes/understands that masks and vaccines are practical ways to get back to any sort of normal

It’s not just lobby competing in Mental Gymnastic Championship. Greg Abbott (A-hole, TX) wants freedom for businesses to do as they please but not require masks. Not wanting to serve gays? No problem. Must wear mask to enter premises? Problem.
As I said before the only way we’re going to change behavior is a work-place-safety class action lawsuit for a billion or two, much like what happened with flight attendants and restaurant staff against smoking.
We moved to California in late summer of 1997. TV news was split between Princess Diana’s death and how there would be no more bars and restaurants when the indoor smoking ban went into effect on 1 Jan 1998. Not only were the critics wrong about California they underestimated the widespread desire for healthy air throughout the civilized world. Same thing is going to happen with the fungus.

I understand that "leaving it up to the states" is also on your bingo card, so kudos there.
The whole point is that a state doing what Florida is doing is doing something
intensely and flagrantly non-conservative.
So it's just very weird that it's the supposed conservatives that are doing it!
Fair enough -- maybe it is a contradiction. But we have to live in the practical world, and they are giving their customers more choice, which is far more people than the business owners. It's in the better interest for the majority to have a choice in the vaccine rather than let the business owners decide it.
this is where your logic fails
nobody is forcing anyone to get vaccinated
by CHOOSING not to get vaccinated, you are CHOOSING your feelings about vaccines over the ability to patronize a business or visit a country

Not to mention - maybe a consumer would prefer to CHOOSE to be around only vaccinated people? Maybe people would prefer to CHOOSE to work in a place with only vaccinated people?

People can order online via Amazon, Sprouts, Whole Foods, etc. There's other ways around it.

I vote mandate the vax directly, or at the very least indirectly through a passport. But, I understand I will lose a lot of people on that stance.

That's the whole gist, though, right?
"I am very angry that someone is trying to infringe on my selfishness."
In this country, warped views of personal freedom have Trump-ed being considerate.

i mean...i know it’s been said, but this is basically the way public schools ensure safety
the outrage over something that has long been in practice is mind-boggling

That terrifies me.
I have rarely been terrified in my life, but the last time was in August when my sister called me and was racing my 61-year-old mother to the ER and I could hear my mother sobbing uncontrollably from the passenger seat before she spent a week in the ER on oxygen from COVID-19 and subsequent COVID pneumonia symptoms. 7 straight months of positive COVID tests for someone that is retired and did not go into public beginning in March 2020.
I'd love to hear how terrifying the CCP is, though.

I'm sorry to hear that about your mother. I knew two people who died from covid here in LA in the old age.
But we must think logically through these things and not emotionally. And my wife's family is from China, so they can tell you all about it and why they left.

what’s more emotional than that?

I am being completely logical. Science and the vaccine is proven to help control and defeat a virus that we know can affect and even kill anyone and has killed 3 million people worldwide.
It is completely logical from a public health interest standpoint to safely vaccinate every person all the way up to the arguable line of personal freedom.
"Terrified" is the word you used, and sounds pretty snowflake-y considering it's from some fear of a country on the other side of the globe.

jfish just mopped the floor with Lobby while simultaneously giving him severe ass pounding.
Well done fish, if this board every gets a Hall of Fame, this thread will be a first ballot entry.
