Anyone in here into astronomy? My oldest son will turn 6 in January and has been asking for a telescope. Santa might bring him one…

I have no clue. I’ve been researching a little bit, but haven’t settled on any one in particular.

Budget would likely be $200 or less.

Advice?

My advice is, this is a good enough question to start its own thread about it.

But I suppose doyel asking about astronomy in this thread is completely unexpected enough to work here too

So last night the smoke detector in my room randomly started chirping every 30 seconds. I get that it’s important to change the battery, but dammit I wish there was some better way than to promptly deny a good night’s rest otherwise.

So I climb up there and get the battery out, hoping to at least buy myself a few more hours of rest. It won’t quit chirping! I look around the house for another 9V battery, but no luck. I put the old battery back in. It stops chirping! Now please just stay quiet til I get up to go to the store in the morning.

I try to salvage a serviceable night’s rest. As I finally start to doze back off, of course I get abruptly awakened again by a message from the landlord.

Yawn.

The reason it almost always occurs at night has to do with temperature.

There must be a way to fix that and make it more likely to occur during waking hours.

So here comes the legal action! Good luck with that $50 lawsuit yall.
Oh boy!

Just got an email entitled “LEGAL CORRESPONDENCE” from someone claiming to be the dirty doctor’s lawyer. This person has the same last name as the doctor, so perhaps some relation.

Despite the email title, the body of the message reads not like they teach you how to write in law school, but like the same poorly-punctuated ranting that the doctor has included in her calls and emails.

There is a law firm mentioned in the email sig tho! Look up the firm website, but can’t find this lawyer’s name anywhere on it. Google her name, and get a result that apparently she was admonished by the Florida bar last year, and is currently on probation.

If she did so, does the CC company contact us to hear our side?

Cuz like, here’s pics of the trashed unit, along with her war and peace email about lord knows what.

And trying to keep the thread on topic, don’t some doctor’s offices have like a “emotional” service fee for patients who like cry or are difficult?
Yes, you would be contacted by her credit card company. Keep all evidence, receipts, bills, etc...

sooo 5 questions of the day!

1. Is there a hyphen in “poorly-punctuated?”

2. a. What’s probation from the bar involve?
b. Is there any consequence to a lawyer pretending to be a lawyer even though they’re on probation?

3. Should I call the law firm and ask to speak to the person handling the excessive clean fee case? Oh, you’re not familiar with this case? Oh, well it’s over a messy guest who trashed her condo on vacation in CO? This person who says they work for you and that your firm is representing the guest?

5. How many billable hours do you think a lawyer might charge a client over a $50 fee?

5. Is anyone else LOLing as hard as I am right now?

5. (2) probably not

3. i'd call just out of curiosity. but, you may be sticking your nose somewhere it doesn't belong. i'd imagine your outfit has some sort of counsel, so they'd probably be the best ones to contact the guest's firm

Yea.

In any legal anything, pretty sure it’s best to say less than more.

And right now I think no one understands that less than her “lawyer.”

I’m tempted to call. And also tempted to respond with “go ahead and bring suit over $50”

But I wouldn’t do anything without running it by an actual lawyer of our own first. And I think this is the kinda thing an actual lawyer would just giggle about.

i'd just love to hear the response of 1) the guest's supposed council; and 2) presuming it's all bs, the guest's response to getting called out for falsely claiming to have council

Dirty doctor’s online reviews about her sloppiness may be evidence in your favor, I would think. Yes, as Trad said forward everything to your company legal department and step back.

I have disputed credit card charges successfully when I have been charged unfairly by merchants (never for excess cleaning). I usually send a polite email or letter letting them know that the charges are unfair and then turn it over to the credit card company to deal with it if I don’t get a satisfactory response. Depending on the clout of the credit card company, be prepared for hardball tactics. But if you have factual backing (pictures) you can leverage the credit card company in your favor.

Doesn't the lawyer have to be licensed in Colorado?

I don’t even think she’s licensed in Florida!

Lol the dirty doctor’s pretend lawyer is still on our case!

In her emails entitled “LEGAL CORRESPONDENCE,” she now demanding an apology offered to her “client,” demanding to see the pics of the trashed unit (that we provided to the client already), and asking for links to where sites she can go leave bad reviews.

Fortunately, I’ve never been a smartass to anyone on the internet before, so this should be no problem at all.

I kind of want to provide the pics. That’s innocuous enough, right?

and also provide a link to reviews, but offer it with language that encourages the, uh, esteemed esquire, to read all the reviews - which are overwhelmingly good, and never mention any bullshit clean fees imposed, cuz that’s something we avoid doing, and only impose in exceptionally trashed instances when the housekeepers otherwise have to work late, such as this.

I also want to mention how the “client” has harassed us, screamed and swore at multiple employees (including yall’s truly), and repeatedly entered (trespassed into?) areas of our resort that she otherwise knew was closed.

But that last part could be a double edged sword, maybe? Cuz then the “lawyer” will say we’re imposing a clean fee as a reaction or something?

I mean, it’s not like we’re dealing with what the law calls a reasonable person here, either way.
