Even if you dont agree with it, it at least is a stance with some give and take. But you seem to be pretty reasonable and grounded person in general. Not the type of typical Bernie fan (dont know If you are) that I'm talking about.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 11:15 am to start, personally i'd cut military spending to pay for healthcare
i'm not in favor of free college tuition for all, but i see substantial merit in offering trade school educations either for free or for a dramatically reduced cost
i think it's absurd that the wealthiest country on the planet doesn't do more to help ALL of its citizenry
only tangentially related, but it i think it says a lot that nothing has been done to "fix" the medicaid and social security issue that looms dark on the horizon. it's all about priorities, and it's obvious that officials of both parties have had priorities that are askew from my own. Bernie has, by and large, had views that are much more in line with my own than anyone other candidate, regardless of party

Not too long ago, you could work 30 - 40 hours a week making minimum wage and pay your college tuition for an entire semester, afford to own an old car, pay for the gas & insurance, and have some leftover for birth control pills which cost only $2.00/month. But, as could be expected in a capitalist system, as some people accumulated more and more $, they paid political parties and politicians to ensure that more and more accrued to those already at the top. If that wasn't the case and upward mobility was the likely result of increased effort and discipline today like it used to be, people wouldn't be asking for anything "free".
Like trad, I don't think college should be "free", and, I don't think that health care should be "free" unless your society is rich enough to provide it, which ours is. The fact that we make people deal with our current health care "system" while spending more on our military than the next 10 countries in the world combined and our effective tax rate is often higher for regular Americans than for people with more money than they know what to do with, tells you all you need to know about our nation's perverted priorities. Try changing that without involving "the government", and instead depend on CEOs and corporate boards to change their ways makes absolutely no sense at all.

And regarding regulation, I don’t think anyone wants it, unless absolutely necessary.
And when it is necessary, gummint regulation seems like a little less evil, and a lot more effective, option than the fox-guarding-the-henhouse option of letting capitalists “regulate” themselves.

If like me you have spent your entire adult life providing for yourself and your family, then you can understand where I am coming from.
If they make college free will I be reimbursed?
If they excuse student loans will I be reimbursed?

Re: who ya got?
So you’re asking what do I give?
For one thing, I pay a higher effective tax rate than many billionaires. I provide entirely for myself, and don’t expect s handout from anyone. I don’t want and haven’t started my own family because, among other reasons, I’m not sure I’m in a position to afford it.
I am also on the board of directors of my local Trout Unlimited chapter, and put in hundreds of hours a year volunteering for everything from youth education to habitat restoration to river cleanup to local, state, and national advocacy for our environment.
We are currently recruiting volunteers for an upcoming willow planting project, and also hosting a film festival for the benefit of the local middle school fly fishing club. I would ask if you’d like to come volunteer too, but don’t wanna come across as if I expect anyone to “gimme free shit.”
And you mention me complaining about my manager taking out tippable services instead of me. HE was the one on salary and expected to managing the department. I am the one working for what the gummint calls a “tippable wage rate.”
So is it socialist for me to think it’s inappropriate? Or are we supposed to celebrate the manager undercutting me for being a savvy capitalist? (btw as soon as the GM got wind of this he told my manager to cut it out).

Re: who ya got?
Do you think “socialist” regulations are a bad thing for, say, the environment? Or the banks? Or employers - again, you wanna argue that weekends are a bad thing?
Re: who ya got?
lulz
Bernie -- and you -- would shit himself if we enacted policies similar to Denmark's.

Free health care for all. Free public university for all. Excused college loans for all. Repeal and replace. Big beautiful wall. All this falls into the same category.

not all that different from drunk driving
if you choose not to immunize your child, then i see nothing wrong with that child being barred from public school, for example
