I was actually going to go there. It's entirely possible, maybe even probable, that the combination of technology, AI, and toys will be more physically pleasurable than actual sex. It is alarming, but fully headed that direction.

Purely physical pleasure, as you said, sure, but overall pleasure, not at all. I mean, face it, sex with your wife isn't as good as sex with that girl in college who you've wanted for six weeks and as of that morning weren't sure if she was even interested in you.
Just like anything else that's going to be true. You're not going to get the same joy from being awesome at Guitar Hero as you are about being awesome at guitar.

i highly doubt that the virtual alternative could meet or surpass actually experiencing the wonders of the natural world

Yes, I was very deliberate to include "physical." And, as the article I posted suggests, I think a lot of women are already there.
Between AI (deepfakes) and the advancement in realism in toys, it seems possible in the future to "have" anyone you want. That sounds very troubling as you start to get into the emotional aspects.
